The card for UFC on FX 7 is pretty impressive for a non-pay-per-view event. It is highlighted by a high-stakes middleweight clash between Michael “The Count” Bisping and Brazilian MMA legend, “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort.

Many have weighed in with predictions: B/R’s Hunter Homistek, and Chael Sonnen (via The Telegraphbelieve “The Count” will earn his title shot in the clash to determine the No. 1 contender to Anderson Silva’s middleweight crown.

I happen to agree, but as usual, I thought it would be fun to see what the premier UFC simulation video game would predict.

THQ won’t be producing UFC games moving forward, (EA Sports and the UFC agreed to a multi-year licensing deal in June, per MMA Junkie) but for now, UFC Undisputed 3 is still the most current sim-style MMA game available.

Apparently, Bisping is the favorite of man and machine.

In the simulation, he out-boxed and out-grappled the popular Brazilian en route to a third-round knockout. Belfort was dazed on more than one occasion in the simulation before he was put to sleep in the third.

The simulated fight was pretty exciting, and Bisping was in control for most of it.

You may notice, the simulation was done for only three rounds—which isn’t on par with the five-round main event standards—but a hard left hook from “The Count” made the round specification a moot point.

Both men looked like they had been in a fight afterwards, but Belfort was bloodied a bit more, and surprisingly, Bisping controlled him on the ground.

Could this be an example of the game underestimating Belfort‘s grappling skills? We’ll probably find that out on Saturday night when the men meet in real life.

I’m not sure Bisping will knock out Belfort on Saturday, but a unanimous decision victory would still get the job done for him.

Check out UFC on FX 7 live on Saturday, January 19 at 9 PM ET.

UFC 155: Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez Simulated with UFC Undisputed 3

The rematch between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez takes place Saturday, Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

I’m so excited to see two top-notch, healthy heavyweights clash, I couldn’t wait until Saturday night. As I’ve done with several other major sporting events, I simulated the matchup as a bit of a preview on my YouTube channel

Hopefully, the real thing lives up to the simulation.

I used the latest licensed UFC game available for a gaming console as the platform, UFC Undisputed 3. In case you haven’t heard, the UFC license now belongs to EA Sports, per EA Sports, so this title is the last UFC game that will be published by THQ.

The simulated match was a mixture of exciting stand-up fighting and some grappling. In the end, Junior Dos Santos came out on top again.

He used some excellent takedown defense to thwart Velasquez’s attempts to shoot his legs. The two behemoths traded top position when they did go to the ground. Dos Santos more than held his own there.

He actually opened up a nasty gash over Velasquez’s eye with an elbow from top position.

That spelled bad news for Velasquez in the simulation, and I believe it would equate to doom for him in the real-life clash. Dos Santos’ reach and boxing ability is too advanced for Velasquez in the stand-up game.

If Cain can’t control him on the ground, he’s going to be in major trouble.

Such was the case in the simulation. After two-and-a-half spirited rounds, Dos Santos stopped Velasquez in the third round.

I didn’t alter any of the abilities as each man has only competed once since their initial meeting. I cranked the difficulty to the max to ensure that each virtual fighter was at his best.

It was a cool simulation to watch.

We’ll have to wait and see if the real thing is as exciting. If it is, MMA fans will get their money’s worth with this pay-per-view.

Five Things We Want To See In The Next ‘UFC Undisputed’

(If you’re controlling the Japanese fighter against Rampage, just hit down, down, up, X, down to poison his food.)

By Jason Moles

Two weeks ago, fans around the world were delighted to partake in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s latest attempt to broaden its revenue streams with the release of UFC Undisputed 3. It didn’t take long before word began to spread about just how incredible the game is. But despite all of the improvements and advantages that Undisputed 3 has over the game’s first two installments — such as an improved submission system, a less cluttered career mode, and the inclusion of two additional weight classes and a PRIDE mode — the game just isn’t quite “as real as it gets.” At least not yet. Here are five things that UFC and THQ need to add the next go-’round if they want to put a little truth in their advertising and gain some more street cred among UFC die-hards.

Hat Thieves: If you’ve been watching the sport for any amount of time you will have noticed that fighters love to promote their sponsors with every opportunity they get, from donning their gear to slapping a sticker on everything they wear. Some even go as far tattooing a logo on their calf. One of the easiest ways to rep a company that gives you a paycheck for the exposure is to throw a ball cap on your head on the way to the Octagon…and hope that you still have it on when you hit the Harley Davidson prep point.

Hat snatchers are the lowest of the low, depending on whom you ask, and yet they add a comically endearing bit of chaos to the broadcast. C’mon, admit it. You chuckle every time a hat vanishes into the crowd. Therefore when my created fighter, The Bulldog, makes his way to the cage, I want to see someone snatch his hat. Then, and only then, will I know I’ve made it.

You chuckle every time a hat vanishes into the crowd. Therefore when my created fighter, The Bulldog, makes his way to the cage, I want to see someone snatch his hat. Then, and only then, will I know I’ve made it.

The Ultimate Fighter Online Capability: Think of The Sims if they were all ready to destroy a door or ejaculate on their roomie’s food. You create a fighter, get a few local fights, and hope to pass the TUF tryouts. Survive the TUF house by training and beating anyone that gets in your way and snag a six-figure contract in the UFC. The best parts of the new TUF mode are the coach’s challenges and the down-time in between fights and training. Just think of the fun to be had in the virtual mansion as you hide a dude’s gloves preventing him from hitting the heavy bag later on or sprinkling itching powder on someone’s bed.

Verbal Assaults and Coaching Advice from Belligerent Fans: “Get a room!”, “Kick his ass!”, and “Punch him with your punches!” are all things shouted by inebriated fans. Sure, I can see how you’d think this was a bad thing to add to the game, but just imagine the look on your girlfriend’s face when your fighter is on his back with GSP in full mount showing off his spectacular Lay and Pray. (Yes, this is really a selectable gameplan in Undisputed 3.) As soon as a FOX noob in the stands yells, “Get a room!” she’ll smile and inform you that that was exactly what she was thinking. Is it as annoying as listening to the same questions being asked to fighters by three or four different so-called journalists? You bet. But that’s how the game is played.

Weight Cutting Mini-Game: An optional feature, the weight-cutting mini game before each fight would challenge you to get your fighter on weight by performing a correct sequence of buttons, like dancing in GTA, or hitting the correct buttons at precisely the right time a la Guitar Hero. Each successful button pressed allows your fighter more time in the sauna thus, he has a greater chance of making weight. On the other hand, should you miss weight you will be penalized 20% of your purse in Career Mode and your stats will be impacted negatively in all modes, including online. If you fail as miserably as Anthony “Rumble” Johnson did, you may just get cut from the UFC and demoted to a spot in Supremacy MMA.

Joe RoganCastigation Mode‘: Ahh, Joe Rogan. Is there nothing controversial that doesn’t involve you? Don’t get us wrong, bro, we love you on the stick and your antics are indeed comedy gold, but some of the ish that comes out of your mouth is complete insanity. For better or worse, Rogan will forever be linked to ultimate fighting and some of the crazier things that have happened will forever be remembered thanks solely to the masterful commentary of “Balloons.” I especially love your ‘Spilled Bag of Ice Meltdown‘. In this much-needed addition to the next installment of Undisputed, gamers would be treated to the following:

– Auto-correction of improper Rubber Guard technique
– Referee challenging
– Challenging a fighter’s preparation
– Diamond MMA cup plug
– Mocking fighters who clearly don’t know $%*@ about BJJ
& much, much more!

UFC Undisputed 3: Top 4 Features of UFC’s Latest Video Game

The bar has been raised yet again, with the best UFC gaming franchise.

The first two installments of UFC Undisputed were great, but the new game mode, extra fighters and tons of unlockables make UFC Undisputed 3 a must-own. Here are the top four reasons to call this installment the best one yet:

1. Addition of PRIDE Fighting Championship

The Japanese variation of UFC has a four-sided ring, and a different set of rules. You can engage in soccer style kicks to the head, and unleash crushing knees to opponents on the ground.

It’s not groundbreaking by any means, but it adds endless amounts of game play to the fold.

2. Tweaked Gameplay

Veterans will feel comfortable almost right off the bat, but there are plenty of new moves that add an extra layer of strategy to the game. The reinvented submission system is a cat and mouse set-up where players have to trap their opponent’s energy bar in a mini-game. The better the submission skills of the fighter, the easier the octagon shaped mini-game is. For novices that don’t care, you can still button mash as well. Having both features was a great idea.

3. Improved Visuals

I guess this is something you’d expect, but the crystal-clear clarity of Undisputed 3 is incredible. Being able to watch beads of sweat drip down, with blood pouring out as well, is pretty awesome. The animation is about the same as last year, with maybe just a slight upgrade.

4. Unlockables Galore

While it may not be revolutionary to earn unlockables for succeeding in the career mode of a game, Undisputed 3 does a good job of making you care, by dangling old-school videos that remind you of the past, like when Rampage Jackson took on Wanderlei Silva, as a reward for winning fights in the game. These videos come with background commentary that explains the backdrop for each match. Watching one of these before a match of your own gets you incredibly pumped up, and ready to go.

Undisputed 3 may not be ground breaking, but it’s the best game in an incredible series. This year’s version has taken a step forward, and has raised the bar yet again.

UFC Undisputed 3: THQ Does MMA Justice in Ultimate Video Game Victory

The wait was well worth it for the newest MMA video game on the market. The depth and reality is vast in UFC Undisputed 3

The game drops on Tuesday, February 14th, just in time to purchase and then tuck away until you are done taking the ol’ lady out for some fancy grub, or not fancy grub depending on your style.

Either way, UFC Undisputed 3 will be at home waiting for you, and that is a special feeling indeed. This is that rare sports video game that offers a heaping dose of realism, making it a must-own for MMA enthusiasts, and also giving intuitive controls for the noobs out there.

The biggest news that you might notice is that Pride is included for those fond of the former big name in MMA fight promotions. The now-dissolved organization will have its fighters featured on this video game giving some diehard fans a reason to run out Tuesday and buy this game.

The cast of characters promises to be vast, but there is downloadable content available that promises to make this a video game we play for months past the release date.

Fighters from Junior Dos Santos and Antonio Nogueira to Kenny Florian and Matt Hughes will feature.

For DLC info you can visit this link. Matchup will be released in the coming weeks with a wealth of fighters taking center stage on release day.

Of course, not every video game aficionado will be a huge UFC fan. Perhaps you just want a fighting game that works well and is not entirely frustrating to pick up and learn like so many games out there.

THQ promises that a revamped submission system will make things much cleaner and easier to understand. That should make a far smoother learning curve for those that don’t grasp the finer nuances of this beautiful sport.

For me, I am looking forward to what is being called an improved career mode. The challenge of building a superstar form scratch is part of the allure of picking up this game and heading home.

The only problem I can think of is that Valentine’s Dinner will get in the way of quality hours of submission holds and knockouts.

UFC Undisputed 3: Expanded Rosters Makes Latest Game Best Yet

While UFC has taken firm control of the MMA world in reality, they have dominated in the virtual reality realm as well. UFC Undisputed 3 will continue that dominance.

One of the reasons that no franchise can compete with the UFC is because of their vast array of talent. The highlight of the latest edition of the company’s video game franchise has to be the extensive roster for both UFC and PRIDE.

Starting with the PRIDE lineup, not only can you mimic the ring walks and stage presentation of the company, you can fight as the greatest stars in history. Fighters like Wanderlei Silva, Mirko CroCop and Chuck Liddell will take fans back to a different time in MMA where face stomps were accepted.

The fun doesn’t stop there, though. For those not old enough to remember the wild fights that PRIDE put on, there is an amazing amount of talent that comes with the game. As if that wasn’t enough, fans can download Alistair Overeem by going to UFC’s Facebook page.

With Brock Lesnar not retired in the game, you can still fight as the heavyweight or one of the many other stars of the division. With more powerhouses like Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez and Roy Nelson in that weight class, fighting in the heavyweight division will be a nightmare.

The additions of Bantamweight and Featherweight divisions are a nice touch, with a whole new group of elite fighters open to the fans, including Jose Aldo, Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.

As cool as it all sounds, there is no division more power packed in this game than light heavyweight. With Anderson Silva able to fight in the division as well, you are looking at a roster that has guys like Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Rampage Jackson, Tito Ortiz and Mauricio Rua.

With all of this talent, this game is a must-own for any video game fan and every MMA fan.
