Rob Font scored his 12th career win inside the Octagon at UFC Seattle following a three-round slugfest with Brazilian standout Jean Matsumoto

Font came out of the gate swinging which prompted Matsumoto to clinch up against the fence and look for an early takedown. Font stayed on his feet and eventually fought off the Brazilian before resuming his attack. As Font moved in to drop more bombs, Matsumoto caught Font with a nice right hand that had the Tampa native backing away pretty quickly.

With Matsumoto backpedaling, Matsumoto used the opportunity to score his first takedown of the fight. Font defended with an omoplata off his back and managed to make it out of the opening round without taking any further damage.

Despite putting Font on the mat in round one, Matsumoto couldn’t replicate the early success and was forced to slug it out with Font throughout the second stanza.

Of course, Matsumoto was more than game, but he ultimately paid the price in the third when Font landed an upward elbow that bloodied up the Brazilian with a little more than three minutes to go in the fight.

With the clock winding down and the fight hanging in the balance, Matsumoto and Font went toe-to-toe and blow-for-blow in the final seconds, bringing the live crowd in ‘Emerald City’ to its feet.

Jared Cannonier vs. Gregory Rodrigues - UFC Vegas 102 Highlights

Jared Cannonier weathered an early storm and scored an impressive fourth-round TKO over the heavy-hitting Gregory Rodrigues in the UFC Vegas 102 co-main event.

As expected, Rodrigues came out swinging in the opening round and managed to drop ‘The Killa Gorilla’ not once, but twice. Even so, ‘Robocop’ was unable to capitalize as Cannonier utilized his wrestling to recover and escape the round.

Rodrigues switched gears in the second round, allowing Cannonier to lead the dance, but business picked back up in the third when the Brazilian started to let his hands go late in the round. However, it was Cannonier who would land the biggest blow of the fight, connecting with a nasty elbow in close that sent Rodrigues crashing to the canvas.

Cannonier jumped on his man and unleashed some ground and pound, but there wasn’t enough time left in the round to finish things.

Even though Rodrigues made it out of the third round, the damage was done and he looked worse of wear while heading back to his corner.

Knowing Rodrigues was compromised, Cannonier went straight to work in the fourth, unleashing a flurry of strikes until catching ‘Robocop’ with a right hand that sent him to the mat for the second time. Before long, referee Herb Dean had seen enough, stepping in and stopping the fight mere seconds into the penultimate round.

Andre Petroski Upsets Rodolfo Vieira in Entertaining Firefight - UFC Vegas 102 Highlights

Andre Petroski scored a sizeable upset at UFC Vegas 102, earning a unanimous decision victory over the heavily favored Rodolfo Vieira.

Despite being a battle of two world-class grapplers, the opening round was contested primarily on the feet. However, that was not for a lack of trying, particularly on Vieira’s part who launched his first takedown attempt 90 seconds into the scrap, only to get met with a check left that momentarily put him on the mat.

gettyimages 2199879235 612x612 1

Vieira tried a couple more times to get Petroski down, but couldn’t complete any of his four takedown attempts in the first.

While Vieira continued to struggle with the takedowns in the second stanza, his hands proved more than capable of going toe-to-toe with Petroski. Throughout the round, Vieira pumped his jab and lit up his opponent with some well-timed combinations.

With the fight potentially even, Petroski started to open up a bit more in the third. That resulted in him surrendering his first takedown of the fight, but Petroski quickly scrambled back to his feet and bloodied Vieira with a big one-two. Vieira shot in for a last-minute takedown but was unable to finish it before the final horn.
