UFC lightweight star Michael Chiesa has given his prediction for the next title fight in the division.

It’s been well documented that UFC President Dana White has confirmed that he will strip Conor McGregor of the UFC lightweight title.

The main reason for that is due to his inactivity. McGregor has not been seen in the Octagon since at UFC 205 when he won the lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez. McGregor then fought in a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather.

Now, the promotion has new plans to crown its new lightweight champion. The winner of Khabib Nurmagomedov – Tony Ferguson Ferguson at UFC 223 will be the actual lightweight champion.

Chiesa is slated to take on former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 223.

Chiesa recently did an interview to break down this fight, and during the conversation, he gave his prediction for the winner of this key bout in the lightweight division.

“Khabib has got the equalizer,” Chiesa told MMAjunkie. “We’re talking that wrestling and pressure. It’s unparalleled. I don’t see Tony trying to stop the takedowns. But Khabib’s going to pay for it.”

“I still think Khabib wins, three (rounds) to two,” Chiesa said. “Possibly a split decision. I think Tony’s going to win some rounds off his back. (If) Tony wins, I wouldn’t be surprised, but I just don’t know if (Tony has) the right grappling style to beat Khabib.

I think to beat Khabib, you’ve got to maintain a scramble once you hit the floor and try to spin around and scramble to dominant position. I think Tony’s going to accept the guard. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, but I don’t think it’s the best thing.”

UFC 223 is set to take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk has a different tune going into UFC 223.

It’s already been announced that the former champ will fight current UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas in the co-main event of this upcoming pay-per-view event.

This marks the second time that Namajunas will take on previously undefeated Jedrzejczyk. If you recall, they fought back in November at UFC 217 where Namajunas won with a first-round knockout.

Going into their first encounter, Jedrzejczyk’s antics were talked about a lot as she brought up Namajunas’ history of mental instability. Before UFC 217, there were many people who believed that Jedrzejczyk was the best female fighter on the planet.

Jedrzejczyk stated in a recent interview that she is going to bounce back stronger than ever. She also noted that although “Thug Rose” won the battle, she won’t win the war.

“We all can fall,” Jedrzejczyk told MMANytt. “This is what I’m going to do, I’m going to dedicate this fight to people who fell and they don’t have the power to raise up, but I will show to them that it’s worth it. I will raise up. I raised already, so I will show the people that it’s worth it. It’s worth it to stand up and fight.”

UFC 223 is set to take place on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at 6 p.m. ET.

“I have so much respect for Rose Namajunas, same as I had before the first fight,” said Jedrzejczyk (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “I didn’t disrespect her. … The thing is, everyone can win [a] short fight, quick fight. Of course, she did it perfect. She punched me, she was so precise and she had enough power that night to knock me out. But, like I said, I was not a competitor that night. I went through so many wars, and maybe she won a battle, but she’s not going to win a war. I’m going to win on April 7.”

“You can build your legacy and your legacy can be big, but even after you slip or fall, you learn, and your legacy is getting even bigger,” Jedrzejczyk said. “This fight, this one fight on April 7, and the victory that night, is going to be bigger than all of my UFC fights.”

Last November, Joanna Jedrzejczyk was shockingly knocked out by Rose Namajunas in the first round of a five-round title fight at UFC 217 in New York City, surrendering her 115-pound title in the process.

The two are now set to rematch at the upcoming UFC 223 card, which is set for April 7, 2018 in Brooklyn, New York, and Jedrzejczyk has promised that ‘the queen is back’:

“What I can say is it’s going to be bigger than my whole fight career,” Jedrzejczyk said in an interview with FloCombat. “Only one night. Only one fight. It’s going to be bigger than 14 years of my fighting career. Mark my words. I’m very confident. The queen is back.”

Prior to losing to Namajunas, Jedrzejczyk had won 14-straight fights, while defending her title five consecutive times. Heading into the rematch, the Polish striker remained adamant that her focus is simply on reclaiming the title and not on gaining redemption on Namajunas:

“It was important to get the title shot, but if Rose was going to fight in February or March and she was facing someone else [and lost] as long as I could go for the title,” Jedrzejczyk said. “I want to get what belongs to me. I don’t want to just rematch her. I want the title. It doesn’t matter who keeps the belt. I’m the owner of this belt and I’ve owned this belt for two years and nine months.”

UFC 223, which will take place at the Barclays Center, will be headlined by a highly intriguing lightweight title fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
