And with that women have arrived in the UFC.

Ronda Rousey will headline alongside Liz Carmouche in the first ever women’s championship bout under the UFC banner, and Rousey will be the automatic champion of the division.

Carmouche is coming off back-to-back victories in Invicta FC. While the focus will be on Rousey, Carmouche should not be left in the background. The former Marine and Strikeforce title challenger brings in a solid all-around game.

This is how the first ever UFC Women’s Championship fight breaks down.

UFC’s Brazilian Site Trolls Fans With Brief Promise of Rousey vs. Cyborg

Was somebody at br.ufc.com having a little joke last night — or did they reveal something they weren’t allowed to yet? Whatever the case, the UFC’s official Brazilian website briefly posted a link to UFC 157: Rousey vs. Cyborg, the women’s superfight that remains too good to be true.

Cris Cyborg immediately denied the match was happening, telling MMAJunkie that while she is currently negotiating with the UFC, she won’t be meeting Ronda Rousey at the February 23rd event in Anaheim. But in violation of her strict doctor’s orders, the former Strikeforce’s 145-pound women’s champ revealed that she could indeed get down to 135 pounds eventually: “In one month, I can’t do it, but if I have time, I could do it,” Cyborg said, perhaps miscalculating the amount of time between now and 2/23.

The details of Rousey’s UFC debut remain unknown. Nevertheless, she remains the UFC’s 135-pound women’s champion. Pretty sweet gig, if you ask me.

Urijah Faber was expected to fight in February, but the card and opponent are now different. MMAWeekly.com is reporting that verbal agreements are in place for Faber to square off in a rematch against Ivan Menjivar at UFC 157.

The bantamweight bout would be taking place on February 23 from the Honda Center in Anaheim with Dan Henderson vs Lyoto Machida on the card as well.

It was reported by Tatame.com nine days ago that Faber was going to face Vaughan Lee at UFC 156 on February 2 in Las Vegas. Lee, though, told Fighters Only on Saturday that the fight was just a rumor and nothing more.

We last saw Faber in the cage at UFC 149 in July, where he lost by unanimous decision to Renan Barao for the UFC interim bantamweight championship.

The last time we saw Menjivar step into the Octagon was at UFC 154 last month when he defeated Azamat Gashimov by first round submission.

Faber and Menjivar fought in 2006 under the TKO Promotion based in Canada. Faber won the fight by disqualification as Menjivar kicked Faber while he was down on the mat.

Some late news before everyone leaves their computers to hangout with friends and family for Thanksgiving.

Dan Henderson was slated to face Jon Jones at UFC 151 for the UFC light heavyweight title. Henderson went down with an injury and the event was subsequently cancelled when the UFC was unable to create a suitable replacement bout.

Jones took all the heat for the cancellation at the time, but then news began to trickle down that Henderson suffered the injury a few weeks before the fight and didn’t notify Zuffa

Henderson was offered another crack at the champ at UFC 152 but had to turn down the fight. The title shot went to Vitor Belfort, who lost by submission in the fourth round.

When it was announced that Jones would be coaching the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter opposite Chael Sonnen, Henderson was quick to cry foul. After all, he never received his shot at the UFC light heavyweight title.

Well, it appears that the UFC is a two-strike organization, as Henderson will be facing Lyoto Machida in his return bout.

Luca Gomes broke the news on Tatame earlier this week and Ariel Helwani confirmed the news late Wednesday evening on MMAFighting.com. It should be noted that no fight contracts have officially been signed, though it’s expected that it will be made official sometime soon.

UFC 157 is the promotion’s return to Anaheim, California. This bout is not expected to be the main event.

Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida Verbally Agree to UFC 157 Meeting in February

(“Thank you for this honor, Bader-san. I will now honor your ancestors by getting drunk on a boat and attending a foam party.” Photo via Tracy Lee/Yahoo! Sports)

The UFC’s spite-booking between light-heavyweight contenders Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida is close to being finalized. Sources close to the event have informed MMA Fighting that Hendo and Pervo have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 157, which will go down February 23rd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The bout isn’t expected to be the card’s main event, which is still TBA at this point. Not that we wouldn’t want to speculate.

Due to a poorly-timed knee injury, Henderson has gone all of 2012 without a single Octagon appearance — not an ideal situation for a 42-year-old athlete, but at least the layoff has given him time to enroll in shit-talking school — while Machida is coming off his August knockout of Ryan Bader. The winner will likely take on Jon Jones, after he champ finishes thrashing Chael Sonnen in April. (No, I’m still not going to give Sonnen a chance, no matter how many insulting specialty pizzas he creates.)

It seems that the mega-stacked UFC 156 card was too good to be true.

In the first schedule change for the promotion’s highly anticipated Las Vegas card in February, light heavyweights Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida are being moved to UFC 157.

TATAME was first to report the news, citing that the UFC made the change just this past weekend:

Originally scheduled for Feb. 2 at UFC 156 in Las Vegas, the fight between [both] light heavyweights will now be held at UFC 157, the 23rd of the same month in Anaheim, Calif. (USA), as found [by] TATAME.

UFC 157 was made official for Anahiem’s Honda Center earlier this month, although no headliners were announced for the February card. It’s likely that Henderson and Machida will headline the event in a title eliminator for the opportunity to face the winner of Jon Jones vs. Chael Sonnen.

With the change in schedule, the following fights are still tentatively set for the UFC 156 card:

  • Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar
  • Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio Silva
  • Rashad Evans vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
  • Urijah Faber vs. TBA
  • Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia

Throughout the years, the UFC has seen lower live gates and attendance at the Honda Center, which has generally hosted heavyweight title fights as the main events.

UFC 121 (Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez) and UFC 59: Reality Check (Andrei Arlovski vs. Tim Sylvia and Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin) are the two most profitable events that have taken place at the Honda Center so far, with four fight cards hosted there over the last six years.
