Brock Lesnar is back.

The former UFC heavyweight champion made a surprise return at the WWE Summerslam pay-per-view event on Saturday night right after Roman Reigns defeated John Cena in the main event.

Lesnar — who was sporting a new look with a full beard and ponytail — arrived just as Reigns was standing over Cena as the crowd unsurprisingly erupted.

You can watch it below:

It was revealed last year that Lesnar — who hadn’t appeared on WWE since April 2020 — was notably out of contract with Bellator president Scott Coker reaching out to him over a potential fight with Fedor Emelianenko.

In the end, it looks like Lesnar decided to stay with the WWE similar to all the other times where his contract expired and rumors of a return to mixed martial arts resurfaced.

For those who still have hope, it looks highly unlikely with Lesnar having just turned 44 last month. Then again, anything can happen in combat sports.

Do you think we’ll ever see Lesnar in MMA again?

Sajad Ganjzadeh won karate gold at the Tokyo Olympics despite being knocked out by Tareg Hamedi in the men’s 75-kilogram weight class on Saturday.

Hamedi was ahead by three points when he let a fight-ending head kick fly. The Saudi Arabian knocked Ganjzadeb out cold before wheeling away in celebration after he seemingly secured himself an Olympic gold medal.

Unfortunately, Hamdei was disqualified for using “excessive” force. In the Olympic version of karate, fighters are not allowed to follow through with their strikes.

Ganjzadeh didn’t realize he’d actually won gold until he woke up in the medical room backstage. The Iranian admitted it was somewhat bittersweet to have won the gold medal on a technicality.

“The last thing I remember was that I was behind by scores and then that incident happened and I don’t remember much after that, and what I remember was that in the medical room I woke up and I heard from the coach that I won the match,” Ganjzadeh said. “I’m very happy that I achieved this gold medal but I’m sad that it had to happen like this.”

Do you think Tareg Hamedi was robbed of his Olympic gold medal after he knocked out Sajad Ganjzadeh?

Ronda Rousey has leaped to the defence of Simone Biles who is in the firing line after quitting the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health.

The 24-year-old gymnast competed at just one event at the games before announcing her withdrawal that was not related to an injury. Biles remains eligible to compete in the individual all around later in the week.

“No injury thankfully, and that’s why I took a step back because I didn’t want to do something silly out there and get injured,” Biles said, via Olympics.com. “I thought it was best that these girls took over and did the rest of the job, which they absolutely did — they’re Olympic silver medalists. They should be really proud of themselves for how well they did.”

“It’s been a really stressful Olympic Games as a whole; not having an audience — there are a lot of different variables going into it [the Games],” Biles added. “It’s been a long week; it’s been a long Olympic process/year. I think we’re a little bit too stressed out. We should be out here having fun, and sometimes that’s not the case.

Biles has received some criticism for bailing on her teammates who eventually went on to claim a silver medal.

Former UFC bantamweight champion and Olympic bronze medallist, Rousey, took to social media to put those critics on blast.

“Everyone judging @Simone_Biles doesnt know their foot from their asshole when it comes to being in her position,” Rousey wrote on Twitter. “Shes on the Olympic team while you’re on Twitter.Whatever is going on cannot be grasped from outside. She’s doing the absolute best she can given the situation she’s in.”

Do you agree with Ronda Rousey? Is Simone Biles receiving unfair criticism for quitting the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health?

The Importance Of OSU Wrestling To Primitive & Modern MMA

Oklahoma State University has a rich history of producing elite-level mixed martial arts fighters and has been doing for several decades. The school’s wrestling team has long been one of the best in the country and for some reason, its athletes always seem to bet on MMA as their follow-on career.

In the late 1980s before MMA or the UFC was even a thing Don Frye and Randy Couture were teammates on the OSU wrestling team. The pair would go on to become pioneers in the sport of MMA and legends of the game.

Frye entered the UFC in its very early days when the sport lacked many of the rules we see in place today – one such rule was no weight classes. Frye won the UFC 8 tournament and the UFC 1996 tournament too. Although in those days they didn’t have a belt system he was for all intents and purposes a UFC champion and remains a fight legend.

Couture left OSU with his place in the Hall of Fame secure and went to work on achieving the same feat inside the UFC. His list of accomplishments is staggering, to say the least. ‘The Natural’ held UFC titles on six occasions. He was the first fighter to become a champion in two different weight classes and he was also the oldest ever champion when winning the heavyweight strap at 45 years old – he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2006.

In more recent times you have had guys like Johny Hendricks emerge from OSU to become UFC champions. ‘Big Rig’ won two NCAA Division I championships during his years at college where he finished with an overall wrestling record of 159 – 13. The now retired MMA fighter took to the sport like many from OSU – naturally. He had the elite level grappling base and ungodly power in his hands that made him the UFC welterweight champion.

Currently Daniel Cormier is the man flying the flag for OSU in the UFC. The 41-year-old was a standout wrestler at OSU and went on to represent the USA at the 2004 Olympics coming fourth. He was named captain for the 2008 games but was forced out due to kidney failure brought on by excessive weight cutting. Since transitioning to MMA in 2009 he has enjoyed great success and is arguably one of the greatest fighters ever. ‘DC’ won the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix just 10 fights into his professional career. He went on to join the UFC an become a dual weight champion at light-heavyweight and heavyweight, he was just the second fighter to do so.

While the OSU wrestling team has produced three UFC champions and a tournament winner it has also produced a lot of other high calibre fighters who still made a massive impact despite not reaching the lofty heights of UFC gold. Shane Roller, Jared Rosholt, Jake Rosholt Mark Munoz, Muhammed Lawal were all part of the OSU wrestling team and all went on to become world-class MMA fighters.

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has announced some details about their first three events taking place in the playoffs of their league.

The playoffs for the second season of the league will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on October 11, 17, and 31.

These shows will be broadcast on ESPN2, ESPN+, and ESPN Deportes. The playoffs will see fighters in the six divisions have to win twice in one night in order to advance to the $1 million finals:

“We’re proud to stage the 2019 PFL Playoffs in Las Vegas, the fight capital of the world and home to major-league sports and larger-than-life entertainment events,” PFL CEO Peter Murray stated. “Our focus has been on partnering with leading brands and properties such as ESPN, and we are now excited to team with another world class organization in MGM Resorts as our playoff partner in October.

“For the first time ever in Las Vegas, MMA fans will experience fighters fighting twice in one night to reach the PFL Championship, where six elite athletes will earn their divisional championship belts and $1 million each.”

The first three events of the 2019 regular season have already taken place, while the second half of PFL’s 2019 season takes place July 11, July 25 and August 8. The show on August 8th goes down at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, which marks to be an important show, as it will serve as the final show of the regular season.

In the main event, a heavyweight showdown will see Kelvin Tiller and Denis Goltsov inside of the cage. Satoshi Ishii vs. Rosholt will serve as the co-main event. It will stream live on the ESPN+ streaming service, with the prelims available on ESPN 2.

This is where the final regular season bouts for the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions will take place. The eight fighters from each division will then move on to the postseason where they have a chance to win the $1 million prize.
