Austin Vanderford delivered a dominant performance in his Octagon debut on Saturday, but it’s what happened after the fight that had everyone talking.

Squaring off with Nikolay Veretennikov at UFC Seattle, Vanderford pounded out an impressive technical knockout in the closing minute of the second round. Vanderford celebrated the win by launching his mouthpiece into the crowd, but little did he know that Veretennikov was still looking scrap.

As Mr. Paige VanZant played to the crowd, Veretennikov circled the Octagon in frustration before making a B-line for Vanderford and shoving the former Bellator star in the back. Vanderford shoved him back before security stepped in and separated the two.

Austin Vanderford says referee saved Veretennikov from taking more damage

Speaking with Full Send MMA backstage, Vanderford offered his take on the post-fight encounter.

“I’m not really sure what he was complaining about,” he said. “He was never getting out of that position we were in and he was just going to get hurt even worse. He’s lucky that the ref saved him, to be honest.”

Vanderford was also made aware that the double bird he flipped Veretennikov quickly went viral on social media, getting a laugh out of the UFC newcomer.

“Of course, our emotions are running and he starts talking sh*t,” Vanderford added. “He comes up calling me a b*tch. I mean, who was cut up and getting their ass beat. That’s just the way it’s gonna go.”

Vanderford improved his overall record to 12-2 with the win in ‘Emerald City’ and has now won back-to-back bouts following a 65-second knockout of Victor Romero at LFA 194 in October. Vanderford’s wife, former UFC fighter turned OnlyFans model, bare-knuckle brawler, boxer, and Power Slap star Paige VanZant, joined him inside the Octagon to celebrate the victory.

“Welcome to the [UFC], baby!” VanZant wrote on Instagram.

Henry Cejudo vs. Song Yadong Ends in Controversy After 'Triple C' Suffers Gruesome Eye Poke - UFC Seattle Highlights

Song Yadong scored the biggest win of his MMA career against Henry Cejudo at UFC Seattle, but it came with a healthy dose of controversy.

Through more than two-and-a-half rounds, Song and Cejudo delivered an entertaining scrap that saw the two bantamweight stars landing big shots on one another. However, things took a turn for the worse with just over a minute left in the third when Song inadvertently poked ‘Triple C’ in the eye.

Replay showed that it was an especially bad eye poke that prompted Cejudo to take the full five minutes of rest time before resuming the fight. Cejudo stayed elusive through the remainder of the round, clearly just trying to get back to his corner.

Once Cejudo made it to his stool, he immediately told his corner that he couldn’t see out of his left eye and asked for the cageside physician to come in and check. With Cejudo explaining that he can’t see, referee Jason Herzog explained to both fighters that he would begin the fourth round and then immediately bring it to a pause which would allow him to send the five-round fight to the scorecards earlier than expected.

Technically, Herzog did not need to start the fourth round. Regardless, the fight was called off and we went to the scorecards which revealed Song Yadong as the winner.

Official Result: Song Yadong def. Henry Cejudo via technical decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Interestingly, if Cejudo had opted to bow out of the fight with time still left in the third round, the fight would have been ruled a no-contest. By finishing the third round, that is what allowed Herzog to go to the scorecards and hand ‘Triple C’ his third straight loss.

Rob Font vs. Jean Matsumoto - UFC Seattle Highlights

Rob Font scored his 12th career win inside the Octagon at UFC Seattle following a three-round slugfest with Brazilian standout Jean Matsumoto

Font came out of the gate swinging which prompted Matsumoto to clinch up against the fence and look for an early takedown. Font stayed on his feet and eventually fought off the Brazilian before resuming his attack. As Font moved in to drop more bombs, Matsumoto caught Font with a nice right hand that had the Tampa native backing away pretty quickly.

With Matsumoto backpedaling, Matsumoto used the opportunity to score his first takedown of the fight. Font defended with an omoplata off his back and managed to make it out of the opening round without taking any further damage.

Despite putting Font on the mat in round one, Matsumoto couldn’t replicate the early success and was forced to slug it out with Font throughout the second stanza.

Of course, Matsumoto was more than game, but he ultimately paid the price in the third when Font landed an upward elbow that bloodied up the Brazilian with a little more than three minutes to go in the fight.

With the clock winding down and the fight hanging in the balance, Matsumoto and Font went toe-to-toe and blow-for-blow in the final seconds, bringing the live crowd in ‘Emerald City’ to its feet.

Ion Cutelaba

Ion Cutelaba closed out the UFC Seattle prelims with an impressive first-round submission victory over Turkish knockout artist Ibo Aslan.

Things got off to a fast and furious start with both Cutelaba and Aslan slinging heavy leather from the get-go. After eating a couple of hard shots from Aslan, the nine-year Octagon veteran changed levels and looked to take things down to the mat. Aslan offered some solid takedown defense, but Cutelaba inevitably got him to the mat.

Once there, it was clear that Cutelaba had the advantage as he quickly transitioned to mount during a scramble and cinched in an arm triangle. ‘The Hulk’ proceeded to put the squeeze on Aslan, forcing the Turk to tap out less than three minutes into the opening round.
