Michael Johnson misses weight for his scheduled featherweight showdown against Artem Lobov at the upcoming UFC Moncton event. This fight will serve as the co-headliner of the show.

The UFC held the official weigh-ins for this show on Friday morning (October 26, 2018), where all of the fighters took the scale to make weight. However, Johnson failed to do so for his short-notice featherweight scrap.

He weighed in above the 146-pound limit for non-title featherweight fights at 147 pounds while Lobov made weight at 145.5. As a result, he was not allowed to make another attempt.

The Fight Must Go On

Despite this bump in the road, the fight will still take place. However, it does mean that Johnson will be missing a chunk of change in his check for his performance at this show. Lobov will be awarded 20-percent of his opponent’s purse.

If you recall, Lobov had a different opponent at this event but got changed. Zubaira Tukhugov was removed from this fight for his role in the UFC 229 brawl between UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

Johnson enters this fight looking to continue his recent success as he’s just 1-3 in his four outings. He has suffered losses to names such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, and Darren Elkins. However, he rebounded by snapping that three fight losing streak with a win. He was victorious over Andre Fili by split decision back in August at UFC Lincoln.

UFC Moncton (also known as UFC Fight Night 138) is set to take place on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Moncton Coliseum in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Volkan Oezdemir vs. Anthony Smith in a light heavyweight bout will serve as the headliner.

Artem Lobov Receives New Opponent For UFC Moncton

Artem Lobov has received a new opponent for UFC Moncton after Zubaira Tukhugov removal.

It may not be the fight he wanted, but Artem Lobov will receive a huge step up in competition.

Initially, Lobov was scheduled to fight Zubaira Tukhugov in Canada on October 27th. However, due to the events that transpired at UFC 229, those plans changed. Tukhugov was one of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s teammates who stormed the Octagon and attacked Conor McGregor.

As a result, he has been removed from his fight with Lobov, much to “The Russian Hammer’s” disappointment, and UFC President Dana White suggested he may be cut from the promotion as well. The possibility of Tukhugov losing his spot on the UFC roster presents other issues. UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has threatened to leave the promotion if his teammate is cut.

While the UFC scrambles to deal with those issues, Lobov must shift his focus from Tukhugov to a new opponent. Per ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, longtime lightweight and featherweight competitor Michael Johnson will step in to face Lobov. This is a huge step up in competition for the Russian.

Johnson has recorded wins over the UFC’s elite, such as Tony Ferguson, Edson Barboza, and Dustin Poirier. He brings a stout wrestling game and vicious knockout power to the table. Lobov and Johnson will serve as the co-main event for UFC Moncton.

The event goes down live from the Avenir Centre in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on October 27, 2018.

Michael Johnson Wants ‘Big Fights’ At Featherweight & Lightweight

Will Michael ‘The Menace’ Johnson get what he’s asking for?

Michael Johnson wants “big fights.”

“The Menace” finally won at 145 pounds against Andre Fili last week. He picked up a controversial split decision win at UFC Lincoln. It was his first win inside the Octagon since September of 2016.

The victory broke a three-fight losing skid by Johnson. Prior to his string of losses Johnson picked up notable wins against the likes of Dustin Poirier, Edson Barboza and Tony Ferguson.

Johnson spoke to MMA Junkie recently about his win. He seems to be extremely confident after defeating Fili in Nebraska. Johnson noted that, while money is important, he needs to get back to loving the sport:

“Money is definitely an issue,” Johnson said. “It’s not an issue, but it’s definitely a must to have. But at the same time, I need to get back to enjoying the sport.

“I need to get back to enjoying fighting and saying ‘f’ the money. When I got into the sport, it wasn’t about the money.

“It was about going in there and fighting the tougher guys and having fun. My last few fights, it was kind of about the money, and I saw those fights come up as losses.”

At this point in his career, the 32-year-old said he’s looking for “big fights” and he’s willing to jump from 145 and 155 pounds to get them:

“Leading into the future, I do want big fights,” Johnson said. “I want fun fights. If a fun fight pops up at lightweight, I’m going to jump on it. A tough guy at 145 that’s going to put me in position to make the run for the title next year, those are the fights I want.

“I’m not in it to fight the middle of the back at 145 any more. I want the best of the best at 145 and 155 pounds, as always.”

Despite losing a close split decision, Andre Fili just trashed Michael Johnson after UFC Lincoln.

Fili (18-6) was stunned when the decision was announced at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, last weekend (Aug 25, 2018). To his surprise, “Touchy” Fili was on the wrong side of a close split decision loss to Johnson. The setback puts an end to Fili’s two-fight win streak and gives Johnson his first victory in the stacked featherweight division.

Both Fili and Johnson delivered in the co-main event at UFC Lincoln. So much so, the judges rendered a close split decision in favor of Johnson. One judge actually scoring the fight 30-27 for the “Menace”.

Sour Grapes

The Alpha Male fighter took to Instagram to voice his displeasure on his most recent loss. Fili also took a moment to comment on Johnson’s punching power, or lack thereof.

“I WON that fight. Plain and simple. My preparation was perfect and my performance was superior. The universe provides challenges and rewards us for the way we react to and navigate through them.”

“All I’m going to keep focusing on is what I can control. I’m hungrier than ever and I’ll be back better than ever. Thank you to everyone who has my back, I love ya’ll. With that said, @menace155 you hit like a ***** and you act like a *****- I’m ready to crack it off anytime.”

It seems Fili is ready to get back to work ASAP. Whether or not he will ever get to settle the score with the “Menace” remains to be seen. However, one thing is for sure, this most recent setback for Fili sure hasn’t cramped his style. This Alpha Male fighter still has his swag, and he is ready to crack it off anytime.
