UFC star Conor McGregor has told Floyd Mayweather he would be “dead in twenty seconds” if he fought the Irishman in a real fight.

He made the comments during the first leg of the press tour to hype their upcoming bout on August 26. The UFC uploaded video of the testy exchange (around the 9:09 mark) (warning: video contains NSFW language):

The two will come face-to-face four times during the press tour, which will travel from Los Angeles to Toronto, Brooklyn and London.

As expected, the Notorious didn’t hold back during the first stop in L.A., making numerous references to Mayweather’s supposed tax problems. According to legal website Law360 (h/t ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell), Money has asked for a reprieve on unpaid taxes from 2015 until after the fight.

Per radio presenter Michael Stets, Mayweather took the many references to heart:

While Money is the overwhelming favourite to win the bout―he has a perfect 49-0 record in the ring and has faced multiple future Hall of Famers, whereas McGregor has no professional boxing experience―most pundits would likely agree the Notorious would fare better in a “real fight.”

The UFC lightweight champion has the fearsome power and standup game to go with solid ground work, even if he’s better known for his knockouts. Whether that power will translate to the boxing ring remains to be seen.

Floyd Mayweather Sr. Says Conor McGregor ‘Dance for Me, Boy’ Taunt Wasn’t Racist

Despite receiving some backlash for comments made toward Floyd Mayweather Jr. at their opening press conference Tuesday in Los Angeles, Conor McGregor didn’t irk Floyd Mayweather Sr.

As seen in the following video courtesy of TMZ Sports, McGregor said, “Dance for me, boy,” while his Aug. 26 opponent was shadow boxing on stage:

The elder Mayweather was asked if the comment was racist, but he shot down that notion, per TMZ Sports“Racist? I don’t know what that got to do with race. This is a boxing match. I don’t know what that got to do with no racists.”

Mayweather Sr. has already been a central figure in the build toward the fight, as McGregor tweeted a photo of him after the bout was announced:

As expected, Tuesday’s press conference featured no shortage of verbal jabs between the two combatants, as both competitors have largely built their careers on talking the talk and then backing it up.

The 40-year-old Mayweather is a perfect 49-0 in his professional boxing career, but he hasn’t fought since defeating Andre Berto in 2015.

McGregor, however, has never had a boxing match, although he is 21-3 in MMA and is the reigning UFC Lightweight champion.

Per OddsShark, Mayweather is currently a heavy favorite at -550 (9-50), while McGregor is a +375 (15-4) underdog.

The Mayweather versus McGregor press tour will continue Wednesday in Toronto.

Conor McGregor Will ‘Bounce an Elbow’ off Floyd Mayweather If He’s Disrespected

Conor McGregor has hinted he may abandon boxing rules in his August 26 clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he is disrespected, threatening he “might just bounce an elbow off his eyebrow” or “strangle” him in two seconds.

Speaking at a pre-fight press conference, the Irish MMA star promised to stick to boxing rules against 40-year-old Mayweather, but only if he is treated with respect, per UFC on Fox:

As long as he speaks my name with respect, I will abide by the boxing rules, I’ll abide by the Marquess of Queensberry rules. If he disrespects me during this tour or during this buildup, then maybe I might just bounce an elbow off his eyebrow. So that’s on him how he does it. … As long as he’s nice and quiet and respectful I’ll follow the Marquess of Queensberry rules. If he doesn’t, if his head dips down low I might just wrap it up in a strangle. It takes three seconds to sleep a man from a strangle. An untrained neck, not used to it, takes two seconds. So if I wrap around his neck and strangle him, he will be asleep on the canvas in that ring in two seconds.

UFC lightweight champion McGregor, 28, will take on undefeated Mayweather at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena in his first-ever professional boxing fight.

The crossover clash could reportedly earn each fighter around $100 million (£78.5 million), per BBC Sport.

UFC president Dana White has already addressed concerns McGregor may bring some of his MMA skills to bear in the clash.

He said McGregor is aware he must not break the rules or he will risk a significant lawsuit, per Martin Domin in The Mirror:

“That [kicking] will not happen; it’s in the contract. This is a boxing match under the Nevada commission under the rules of boxing. We talk about a guy of Floyd Mayweather’s value in the sportthe lawsuit if that ever happened…Conor loves money and he would lose a lot of money if that happened.

Mayweather has been retired since September 2015, when he bowed out with a victory over Andre Berto that took his professional record to 49-0.

However, he is the clear favourite to beat McGregor given his huge experience as a boxer, and the Irishman’s complete lack of it.

McGregor claimed the UFC lightweight title with a defeat of Eddie Alvarez in his most recent fight back in November to take his professional MMA record to 21-3.
