UFC welterweight Max Griffin has made sure his opponent isn’t the only one to leave their fight with a lasting scar.

Griffin faced off against Razim Brahimaj on the undercard of UFC on ESPN 17 in November. The back-and-forth contest came to a sudden end after Griffin landed an elbow in the clinch and referee Mark smith called for a halt to the bout. After some initial confusion, it became clear that Brahimaj’s ear had nearly become detached from his head, leading to the stoppage.

Griffin has since taken to his Twitter account to show off some new ink he got to commemorate the victory. He posted a picture of his “souvenEar”, a tattoo on his elbow depicting an ear being torn off (with what appears to be a hook in it for some reason).

Griffin made his UFC debut in 2016 after establishing himself as one of the top welterweights on the regional scene. His debut against Colby Covington is a memorable point in MMA history, as it marks the debut of Covington’s heel persona. While he has yet to string together consecutive wins under the UFC banner, Max Pain has fought a number of notable names in the division, most memorably in a Fight of the Night against Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and taking a decision win over Mike Perry.

Griffin is looking to build momentum off his latest win. He called out a number of big names following the victory, and given his propensity to engage in exciting fights, will be worth watching regardless of who he is faced off against. It should be exciting to see what Griffin does in his next fight, and what kind of tattoo he’ll get to remember it.

UFC welterweight Max Griffin is targeting a big name opponent next.

Griffin returned to the win column with a gruesome third-round TKO win over Ramiz Brahimaj where the latter’s ear appeared to be coming off.

With the damage he inflicted on Brahimaj going viral, Griffin is now looking ahead to a bigger name and has two in particular that he wants — former interim champion Carlos Condit and current ranked welterweight Vicente Luque.

I have respect for all these guys, but there are some names I need to throw out,” Griffin said after the fight (via MMA Junkie). “Carlos Condit, I’ve always wanted to fight a legend like him. I have so much respect for him. I love that man.

“And Vicente Luque—he’s a beast. He slugs it out and that would be a sick fight.”

In reality, a fight with Luque seems highly unlikely.

The Brazilian is currently ranked No. 10 in the welterweight rankings and is looking to climb up further by facing similarly ranked opponents. Griffin, meanwhile, is unranked and only just snapped a two-fight losing streak.

That said, a fight with Condit is more likely.

The 36-year-old recently snapped a five-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision win over Court McGee last month. He is unlikely to face a ranked opponent anytime soon and it would make more sense for him to face unranked opponents such as Griffin who will be looking to add a legend to their resume.

Given that Griffin prefers to strike rather than grapple, it would certainly be an entertaining contest.

Despite a solid showing, promotional debutante, Ramiz Brahimaj dropped a defeat in his UFC bow, after suffering a brutal ear injury in the final round of his preliminary pairing with Max ‘Pain’ Griffin.

The Fortis MMA mainstay had his promotional career disrupted after the discovery of a tumor within his eye, detailed some decent striking early on in the opening round, before suffering a couple of accidental groin kicks from Griffin.

Brahimaj seen a scheduled tie with Miguel Baeza scrapped amid the diagnosing of his tumor, which was subsequently successfully removed, was also forced from a UFC Vegas event in June against Takashi Sato, after a member of his corner had returned a positive test result for COVID-19.

Midway through the third and final frame, Brahimaj who had his back to the Octagon fence was clipped with a short right elbow from Griffin, almost completely detaching the former’s left ear from his head, with Brahimaj clearly attempting to hold his ear in place. In a timely call, referee, Mark Smith separated the two immediately, calling a halt to the action.

Check out footage of Brahimaj’s ear injury below, viewer discretion to the squeamish is advised, however.
