Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has encouraged cousin Umar Nurmagomedov to keep his head held high following a first career setback in Los Angeles this past Saturday night.
The 29-year-old made the walk inside Inglewood’s Intuit Dome for his opening title opportunity on mixed martial arts’ biggest stage, looking to become the latest undefeated Nurmagomedov to hold gold in a leading promotion.
Unfortunately for the Dagestani, he failed in that quest at UFC 311. Instead, Merab Dvalishvili successfully maintained his position on the bantamweight throne, emerging victorious from a memorable five-round battle to record his first defense.
“Head up Junior, yesterday you showed that you are one of the best in the world,” Khabib wrote in an Instagram post. “At the moment we have something to work on, we will work on the mistakes and return to the title race”
“The Eagle” had a busy night in LA, cornering two other fighters at UFC 311.

Khabib Nurmagomedov wishes nothing but the best for Arman Tsarukyan.
Hours away from his first shot at UFC gold, Tsarukyan was forced to bow out of Saturday’s headliner against Islam Makhachev in Los Angeles due to an injured back. The news came as a shock to fighters and fans alike, but fortunately, the UFC was able to pluck another top-10 fighter from the card and insert them into the main event with relative ease.
While backstage at Friday’s ceremonial weigh-ins in Inglewood, Makhachev’s coach and mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, offered his take on the sudden shake-up and shared some words of encouragement to Tsarukyan, recalling a similar incident he himself endured during his own race to the lightweight title.
Khabib Nurmagomedov reacts to the new #UFC311 main event
“Honestly, I knew this yesterday, at 1 A.M. before I sleep. Honestly, this can happen with anybody. If you guys remember [in] 2017, March, it happened with me too. Then after that, I go to hospital, make surgery, come back and I tell UFC, ‘It was my mistake, give me other best guy. I’m going to beat this guy and deserve my title shot.’ It was the same thing with me. I just want to wish him all the best. He’s young. He’s tough. He can come back. He [has] to survive this situation and come back,” (h/t Sportskeeda).
Khabib Refuses to underestimate ‘money’ moicano
Unsurprisingly, Makhachev is a massive -1100 favorite to come out on top against Moicano inside the Intuit Dome. Despite those wide odds, ‘The Eagle’ knows that counting out someone as dangerous and experienced as ‘Money’ would be a massive mistake.
“Now, new main event. I think with Moicano, he has very big experience in the UFC… 10, 11 years in UFC. He [has four-fight] win streak, and he’s on his prime. It’s a good fight. Of course, it’s not like Arman and Islam, but it’s still very competitive fight, and we [are] not going to underestimate this guy.”
Moicano goes into his first UFC title opportunity riding a four-fight win streak and a winner in six of his last seven, including Ws against notable names like Drew Dober, Jalin Turner, and Benoit Saint-Denis.

Dana White had some unkind comments for Frontier Airlines after the company booted lightweight legend Khabib Nurmagomedov from one of its flights.
Last weekend, a video clip of Nurmagomedov being removed from a Frontier flight from Las Vegas to San Francisco went viral. ‘The Eagle’ was reportedly sitting in an exit row where passengers are required to help other travelers exit the plane in case of an emergency. Despite confirming multiple times that he could speak English and was capable of assisting, Nurmagomedov was asked to either switch seats or deplane.
“What the f*ck is he doing on Frontier Airlines anyway?” the UFC CEO said about the incident on Pardon My Take. “This kid’s got more money than anybody but that’s how humble he is. He’s flying on that piece of shit airline.
“I don’t know what you have to do to get kicked off Frontier Airlines. Listen, Khabib doesn’t fight anymore because he’s got shitloads of money. I’ve got to teach Khabib how to charter a plane, especially if you’re just going from Vegas to San Francisco” (h/t MMA Fighting).
If there’s anyone you want sitting in an exit row, it’s Khabib Nurmagomedov
Shortly after the incident made headlines, the Council on American-Islamic Relations called for an investigation into the situation questioning “whether religious or racial profiling played a role in his treatment.”
That prompted Frontier Airlines to issue a statement, dispelling any claims of racial profiling and adding that they had given Nurmagomedov and his travel mates full refunds.
Still, White can’t fathom how Nurmagomedov was treated so poorly considering the responsibilities assigned to passengers sitting in those exit row seats, or as some have come to call them, “poor man’s first class.”
“That’s how dumb they are on Frontier Airlines,” White added. “If there’s anybody you want in that position, it’s Khabib Nurmagomedov. Good job, Frontier Airlines.”

Dana White recently tore into Frontier Airlines after their staff removed Khabib Nurmagomedov from one of their flights.
This past Sunday, the UFC Hall of Famer found himself embroiled in a tense dispute with a flight attendant aboard a flight from Las Vegas to San Francisco. The footage captured Nurmagomedov being asked to change seats, allegedly due to concerns over his English communication skills in a potential emergency — an aspect tied to a strict Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulation for passengers seated in the exit row aisle.
Even after the request, Nurmagomedov remained steadfast, seemingly adamant in his refusal to cooperate. This prompted the flight attendant to suggest involving a supervisor, who could have him escorted off the plane. Ultimately, “The Eagle” made the decision to leave the aircraft of his own accord.

During a recent appearance on Pardon My Take, White reacted to Nurmagomedov’s removal from a Frontier Airlines flight. The UFC CEO didn’t hold back, ripping into the airline and humorously remarking that the undefeated Dagestani should have known better than to choose such a service for someone of his stature.
“What the f**k is he doing on Frontier Airlines?” White said. “This kid’s got more money than anybody, and that’s how humble he is — he’s flying on that piece of sh*t airline. What do you expect? … I don’t know what you have to do to get kicked off Frontier Airlines, but yeah, listen, Khabib doesn’t fight anymore because he’s got sh*tloads of money. Yeah, I gotta teach Khabib how to charter a plane.”
White continued his tirade, taking aim at the airline and asserting that, in his view, there was no one more suited than “The Eagle” to handle any potential emergency.
“That’s how dumb they are on Frontier Airlines. If there’s anybody you want in that position, it’s Khabib Nurmagomedov. Good job, Frontier Airlines.”
Following the polarizing incident, the former UFC lightweight champion took to social media to share his perspective. He asserted that, while he believed he had approached the conversation with courtesy, the flight attendant’s behavior was “very rude.” Additionally, he voiced concerns about whether the altercation had been spurred by “racial” bias.
In response, Frontier Airlines released a statement unequivocally denying any allegations that Nurmagomedov was singled out due to his ethnicity. The airline instead argued that the retired mixed martial artist had initially failed to respond when asked if he could assist other passengers seated in the exit row.
