Former UFC bantamweight contender John Lineker seems to have an opponent for his ONE Championship debut.

As per his social media, Lineker wrote that it would be Muin Gafurov who would be welcoming him to the promotion. However, it doesn’t seem to be confirmed yet, as Lineker also added he’s open to facing anyone.

I cant wait to put on a show for my new fans in One Championship!” Lineker tweeted. “If it Muin Gafurov who will welcome me, awsome! But to me doesnt matter just line them up!

According to MMA Fighting, however, that matchup is set and could take place in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 25. Lineker will be competing as a bantamweight, but given that ONE Championship’s divisions are one weight class above, that means he will be competing at 145 pounds.

“Hands of Stone” was released by the UFC earlier this year after pulling out of a fight with Rob Font. He was notably stepping in as a short-notice replacement for Cody Stamann, but given his past history of missing weight and pulling out, the promotion decided to part ways.

As for his potential opponent in Gafurov, the Tajikistan native is 15-2 and a winner of his last five fights. His most recent outing was a knockout win over Leandro Issa at ONE: Kingdom of Heroes last year.

What do you make of the matchup? Are you excited to see Lineker fight in Asia?

New ONE Championship signee John Lineker is willing to face Demetrious Johnson should their paths cross in Asia.

Lineker was recently released by the UFC after pulling out of his short-notice fight with Rob Font at UFC Greenville last month. With no shortage of suitors, he was promptly signed by ONE Championship, where he will now be able to legally knee grounded opponents.

“I’m really happy to sign with ONE,” Lineker told MMA Fighting. “I believe I’ll be very welcome there. They love strikers over there in Asia, so it’s gonna be a great new home for me. I’m happy and excited.

“I’m a brawler, you know? I love this stuff [different ruleset allowing knees to grounded opponent]. The more exciting, the better. It’s going to be really exciting to fight there.”

One matchup that was not possible before was a fight with Demetrious Johnson. Johnson was the former flyweight king in the UFC, but while Lineker used to compete in that weight class, he regularly missed weight and moved up to bantamweight.

But given the Asian promotion’s weight classes being above the traditional ones, meaning flyweights compete at 135 pounds, Lineker is open to facing “Mighty Mouse,” who signed with ONE last year:

“If they want to make this superfight, I’m here,” Lineker added. “I’m here to fight him. It’s going to be the opportunity that I didn’t have before. Finally.”

Lineker has won eight of his last 10 fights. However, his last outing was a split decision loss to Cory Sandhagen back in April.

Are you down to see Demetrious Johnson vs. John Lineker? Who wins that fight?

ONE Championship has added another notable name to their roster. According to a report from MMA Fighting, former UFC 135-pound competitor John Lineker has inked a deal with the Singapore-based promotion.

“Hands Of Stone” was recently let go by the UFC after pulling from his scheduled co-main event bout against Rob Font at UFC Greenville. Lineker’s deal with ONE is said to be a multi-fight contract, and his promotional debut has yet to be booked. The Brazilian knockout artist will also be competing as a bantamweight in ONE, however, the promotion’s bantamweight division is contested at 145 pounds.

The 29-year-old had previously been with the UFC since 2012, only losing four times under the promotion’s banner out of his 16 total fights. Of those four losses, Lineker was only finished once. Over the course of his career he has proven himself to be one of the scariest knockout artists in the lighter weight classes of the promotion.

However, he struggled making the bantamweight limit of 136 pounds, as he missed weight several times with the UFC. That, along with pulling out of his recent fight on short-notice, forced the UFC to pull the plug on his run with the promotion:

“I think it was because he hasn’t made weight a few times,” Dana White said, “and I just know that the matchmakers were super frustrated with him. The guy wasn’t being professional.”

What do you think about ONE inking Lineker to a contract?
