Aleksandar Rakic wants to fight Jiri Prochazka next.

Both fighters are vying for a light heavyweight title shot with most observers in agreement that Prochazka — fresh off his knockout of Dominick Reyes — is guaranteed to get the next shot.

However, with current champion Jan Blachowicz defending his title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 267 on October 30, it could be some time before Prochazka gets his shot.

Enter Rakic. The Austrian is on a two-fight winning streak and has won six of his seven UFC fights overall. He believes he not only has a shout for the title, but matches up well with Blachowicz.

But given the state of the title picture, he also believes it only makes sense to fight Prochazka in a title eliminator. A contract has even seemingly been sent — Prochazka just has to sign it.

“Have you signed our fight contract yet, Samurai or are you really this dumb to sit out and wait over a year until Jan/Glover decide to come back??????#FutureChamp?

For his part, Prochazka doesn’t seem to pay too much attention to Rakic as he continues to post nature-based training photos.

Safe to say, he doesn’t mind waiting and while a fight with Rakic would be nice in the meantime, Prochazka has earned the right to wait out a title shot. Especially given his war with Reyes only took place four months ago.

Anthony Smith would “love” the opportunity to fight Jiri Prochazka.

‘Lionheart’ is currently scheduled to square off against Ryan Spann on September 18. Meanwhile, Prochazka is expected to play backup for the upcoming light-heavyweight title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira which will take place at UFC 267 on October 30.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Smith expressed his admiration for Prochazka who he believes more than earned his backup spot with a fantastic performance against Dominick Reyes last time out.

“I would love to fight that guy. It just looks like it’s so much fun.” Smith said. “And honestly, he fought Dominick Reyes exactly how I would fight Dominick Reyes. Just get in tight, make it ugly, make him uncomfortable, don’t give him any space.”

The former light-heavyweight title challenger talked up a future fight between him and Prochazka.

“It would be bananas. It would be chaos,” Smith said. “Those are the kinds of fights that everybody’s really, really excited (about). I don’t have to like, be super focused on anything. I don’t have to worry about extra striking or extra jujitsu or extra wrestling. You’ve just got to get your sword as sharp as you can get it and just go in there and swing the god damn thing. That’s a lot of fun to me.

“Behind all that flashy unpredictability and the spinning sh*t and just the craziness that he does, it’s just pressure. That’s all he’s doing, he’s just pressuring people, and that’s what I like to do,” Smith added. “So, I feel like it would just be two hammers banging into each other. It would be a lot of fun. I feel like it would look like a really incredible game of bumper cars. You know, it’s just, you have to go in there and figure it out.”

Jiri Prochazka

UFC light heavyweight contender Jiri Prochazka is looking to stay active in the promotion, as he’s been picked to be the backup fighter for Jan Blachowicz vs. Glover Teixeira at UFC 267, as first reported by MMA Fighting.

Prochazka is riding high ever since making the move from Rizin to the UFC. He earned a dominant victory over Volkan Oezdemir in his UFC debut before knocking out Dominick Reyes earlier this year. In total, Prochazka is on a 12-fight winning streak as he attempts to earn a light heavyweight title in a second promotion.

Before signing with the UFC, Prochazka was the Rizin light heavyweight champion with a knockout win over Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal in a title rematch. He has quickly made his presence felt in the UFC and is currently listed at the UFC’s second-ranked light heavyweight contender and is widely expected to be the next title challenger regardless of whether or not he actually fills in for Blachowicz or Teixeira at UFC 267.

Prochazka has accumulated a record of 28-3-1 over his virtually dominant career in MMA. He has also finished 25 fights in the process.

Blachowicz will face Teixeira in his second title defense as the light heavyweight champion. He beat Reyes by knockout for the vacant title in Abu Dhabi after Jon Jones vacated the belt following a long reign as champion. Prochazka and Blachowicz have gone back-and-forth on social media since his last defense against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

The UFC’s light heavyweight title picture was uncertain after Jones vacated the belt. But with stars like Blachowicz, Prochazka, Reyes, and Teixeira it continues to be in fair shape.

Prochazka will weigh in a championship weight of 205 pounds in the event that either Blachowicz or Teixeira get injured or suffer from uncertain circumstances before fight night. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see if he bumps into Blachowicz after their trash talk on Twitter.
