Jimmy Crute vs. Rodolfo Bellato - UFC 312 Odds and Fight Preview

Before we get to UFC 312’s two world title fights and a heavyweight slugfest between Justin Tafa and the undefeated Tallison Teixeira, fight fans will be treated to a 205-pound clash between Aussie fan favorite Jimmy Crute and streaking Brazilian standout Rodolfo Bellato.

Crute vs. Bellato will be part of Saturday night’s main card when the UFC launches its second pay-per-view of 2025 live from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Going into what will be his 10th career fight under the UFC banner, Crute has come up short in his last four fights, going 0-3-1 in the process. As a result, ‘The Brute’ is a slight underdog at +135, meaning a $100 bet on Crute would net you $135 should he pull off the upset against the well-rounded Bellato. Overall, Crute is 12-4-1 in MMA with five knockouts and four wins via submission. UFC 312 will be his first time competing since a submission loss against Alonzo Menifield in July 2023. Crute averages 3.68 significant strikes landed and 3.04 significant strikes absorbed per minute. His accuracy is a solid 54%, but he only defends 44% of significant strikes coming back at him. As far as takedowns, Crute averages 4.84 landed per 15 minutes with 57% accuracy. He has defended 60% of takedowns.

Rodolfo Bellato favored to come out on top in his first UFC pay-per-view appearance

After fighting his way into the UFC via a second-round knockout of Murtaza Talha on Dana White’s Contender Series, Rodolfo Bellato turned heads in his promotional debut with a dominant TKO over Ihor Potieria at UFC Austin in December.

Given his limited experience inside the Octagon, his available stats are slim, but the Sao Paulo native has averaged 6.47 significant strikes landed and 5.90 significant strikes absorbed per minute. He lands with 61% accuracy and defends 44% of significant strikes. Bellato also averages 1.09 takedowns per 15 minutes and has defended every takedown attempted thus far.

He rides into his sophomore appearance with the promotion as a -160 favorite.

Bellato is a natural brawler, so expect Jimmy Crute to utilize his wrestling to try and mitigate the number of strikes coming his way, but that could ultimately be his downfall if he runs out of gas or gets discouraged by Bellato’s solid takedown defense. That could open up an opportunity for Bellato to get the job done with his fists. Bellato via KO/TKO is currently sitting at +140 odds, a solid plus-money option for the Brazilian bruiser.

In the end, it all comes down to a battle of striker vs. grappler, but in this case, the striker has proven himself more than capable of fending off takedowns and handling himself on the mat, making him the clear favorite to come out on top.

On Saturday night, Australian-born Jimmy Crute returned to his home country to kick off the UFC 284 main card. Looking to get back into the win column after dropping his last two bouts, Crute stepped into the Octagon against heavy hitter Alonzo Menifield. Riding back-to-back first-round knockouts, Menifield was intent on going streaking by earning his third straight win in front of a raucous crowd at the RAC Arena in Perth.

Both fighters came out slinging heavy leather early, but Crute quickly changed things up and put his wrestling to work early in the first round. Scoring multiple takedowns on Menifield, Crute went for a guillotine, but Menifield was able to pop his head free and get back to his feet. From there, Menifield uncorked a series of devastating strikes that rocked Crute as the first round came to a close.

Things continued right where they left off in the second round with Menifield in complete control, getting Jimmy Crute to the canvas early and reigned down strikes. Crute was able to weather the storm and was able to turn the tide late in the round, taking Menifield’s back and fishing for a rear-naked choke as the round came to a close.

The third round saw Crute control a majority of the final five minutes. Attempting to complete a single leg, Menifield blatantly trapped the fence to avoid what would have been a certain takedown. As a result, referee Marc Goddard deducted a point from Menifield. Placed back in the 50/50 position, Crute was able to work Menifield to the canvas and maintained control of his opponent through the end of the third.

Official Result: Jimmy Crute vs. Alonzo Menifield is ruled a majority draw (29-27, 28-28, 28-28)

UFC light-heavyweight Jimmy Crute expects to dominate Alonzo Menifield, this weekend in the main card fight as part of UFC 284.

Crute, 26, is set to make his UFC return after over a year following a knee injury that required him to undergo reconstructive surgery. He is scheduled to fight the hard-hitting Menifield on Saturday in front of his home crowd in Perth, Australia, but the pressure doesn’t seem to be getting to the 205er’.

Talking to MMAJunkie, Crute expressed his confidence in the upcoming result, saying that he would ‘blow him [Menifield] out the water’.

“Alonzo’s got some great skills,” Crute said. “I think people underestimate his wrestling and his ability to string things together there. He’s more than just a big, heavy hitter, but just wait. All I’m gonna say is just wait, because I’m gonna blow him out the water. This is different this time. He’s preparing for the wrong person, I promise you.” (H/T MMAJunkie)

Jimmy Crute looking to get back on track

Prior to his long layoff, Crute suffered two back-to-back losses, the first of which followed a knee injury during a fight with Anthony Smith, having to be pulled out after round two. The most recent was at the hand of reigning light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill, who savagely knocked out Crute in the first round.

Crute is currently ranked No.12 and is still early on in his fighting career, having already displayed some serious grappling ability with solid striking.

UFC light heavyweight Jimmy Crute’s 2022 in the cage will end before it even began due to a necessary knee reconstruction operation.

Crute announced the news on his Instagram page.

“Absolutely gutted to announce that I will be out for the rest of the year,” Crute said. “I need a knee [reconstruction]. I have been putting this off for years but I have sustained too much damage over the last few fights and it has finally come to the point that if I don’t get it fixed it could turn into a career ending injury. I am obviously very disappointed but at the same time a challenge like this is also exciting. It gives me 9+ months to work on other aspects of training and life and come back 100% refreshed and injury free. Thank you all for the continued support. I’m not going anywhere and the Bendigo express is still in full motion.”

Crute has lost back-to-back fights to Anthony Smith and Jamahal Hill over the past year. His loss to Smith at UFC 261 was due to a doctor’s stoppage after injuring his left leg. It’s unclear if the reconstruction is on the same leg that Crute injured.

Crute’s loss to Hill at UFC Vegas 44 came by knockout in just 48 seconds.

Crute had once been touted as one of the top light heavyweight prospects in the UFC following wins over the likes of Michal Oleksiejczuk and Paul Craig. He earned a shot in the promotion after an impressive first-round knockout over Chris Birchler on Dana White’s Contender Series.

For now, Crute will look ahead to 2023 and work to bounce back in a big way in the Octagon. At 25 years old, he has plenty of time to get back on track in his UFC career.
