Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Jéssica Andrade has given her prediction for tonight’s 115-pound title fight between Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza.

After a split decision defeat to “Thug Rose” in 2020, Andrade ventured back to flyweight for three outings as a 125lber. After two victories and a failed crack at dethroning Valentina Shevchenko, the Brazilian returned to her old stomping ground in some style last month.

In the UFC Vegas 52 main event, Andrade submitted rising contender Amanda Lemos with the first standing arm-triangle choke in UFC history.

Having returned to the division and firmly announced herself as a part of the strawweight title picture, Andrade will have a close eye on the next championship fight in the weight class, which is set for less than two weeks’ time.

Andrade: People Underestimate Namajunas’ Ground Game

At UFC 274 tonight in Phoenix, Arizona, the sophomore defense of Rose Namajunas’ second reign on the strawweight throne will co-feature, and will see her look to avenge a past loss to number one contender and former titleholder Carla Esparza.

Despite holding a submission victory over the reigning queen and riding a mightily-impressive five-fight win streak into her third championship fight in the UFC, Esparza is being widely regarded as a large underdog. According to Jéssica Andrade, there’s good reason for that.

During her appearance at the UFC Vegas 52 post-fight press conference, “Bate Estaca” provided some analysis and a prediction for the UFC 274 co-main event. After claiming that Namajunas’ ground game, which was on display in her rematch against Zhang Weili last November, is underrated by most, Andrade suggested that the champ will comfortably retain the belt on the scorecards.

“As much as Carla is relentless with her takedowns, she has an amazing top game, people sometimes maybe underestimate how good Rose is on the ground,” claimed Andrade. “She has been for a long, long time. When I was fighting her, there were like 10 takedown attempts that I tried, that she would go straight to a submission from there. She brings danger no matter where she is.

“She (Namajunas) does have the reach advantage. She’s gonna be fighting on the bigger cage, so I think it’s gonna be tough for Carla to find her there,” added Andrade. “I don’t see her finishing Carla, but I see this fight going the five rounds, with a wide margin for Rose.”

Having jumped straight back into the strawweight mix at #5 following her dominant victory over compatriot Lemos, Andrade will be looking to secure a date with the champ soon enough. Given that her series with Namajunas is tied at 1-1, perhaps she’ll be supporting “Thug Rose” on May 7 in the hope of securing a future trilogy showdown.

Do you agree with Jéssica Andrade? Will Rose Namajunas successfully defend the strawweight gold at UFC 274?

Namajunas Says Andrade’s UFC 237 Slam Cured Her Neck Problems

UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas has revealed the benefit of being slammed on her neck by Jéssica Andrade. Yes, apparently there was one…

Namajunas is currently in the midst of her second reign on the 115-pound throne. Having won the belt from Zhang Weili last April and successfully defended it in a rematch with “Magnum” seven months later, “Thug Rose” will hope to add a second consecutive retention at UFC 274 next month, a feat she failed to achieve during her first stint with the gold.

When Namajunas faces Carla Esparza next weekend, she’ll be looking to avoid the same fate that became of her at UFC 237 in 2019.

After dethroning and defending against Joanna J?drzejczyk, the 29-year-old’s second challenger came in the form of Andrade. In one of the most memorable title-changing finishes in UFC history, the Brazilian slammed her US counterpart on her neck, putting an end to the contest in the second round.

With the slam, Namajunas lost her title, suffered her fourth career defeat, and saw her three-fight win streak snapped. But it seems there was a silver lining…

Namajunas Thanks Andrade’s Healing Slam

During a recent appearance on Morning Kombat with Luke Thomas, Namajunas made a surprising, and medically mysterious, claim regarding her first bout with “Bate Estaca.”

Likely to the surprise of most, not only did “Thug Rose” confirm she escaped the brutal loss unscathed, but she actually did so with the relief of previous neck issues that she’d struggled with ahead of UFC 237.

“With Andrade, I mean, that was just a complete, total stripping away of any innocence as far as — I got slammed on my neck and then I got my nose broken second fight,” noted Namajunas. “The first fight was so different from the second fight. I didn’t really actually sustain any damage, even though I got like, KOed. Actually, the neck problems that I had went away after getting slammed on my neck, which is kinda weird. It was sort of a miracle for me. I came out of that fight unscathed basically.”

Namajunas went on to provide more detail on the neck problems that plagued her pre-fight. Astonishingly, the symptoms went away after she was viciously slammed on her neck inside the Octagon.

“I never thought about actually getting it checked out like, afterwards. But before, I had a fracture in my C6, and then I also had spinal stenosis,” said Namajunas. “It would like, make my arm feel weak sometimes, just lifting up my arm. I would get these terrible headaches and stuff. Sometimes if I’m wrestling a lot and grappling, my neck would be a little bit sore.

“I used to have to put my head in the ice bath backwards just cause my headaches would be so bad. And that was leading up to my first fight with her (Andrade)… Afterward, I experienced none of those symptoms anymore,” added Namajunas. “I should probably see if I still have those problems.”

There we have it. Got neck problems? Enter the cage with Andrade and receive a slam. We’re not sure doctors will be rushing to add that to their list of approved medical techniques…

UFC Fight Night

Against the odds, UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Lemos turned out to be a sleeper hit, with a variety of showcase performances and highlight-reel moments.

Jessica Andrade was able to secure the first standing arm triangle submission finish in UFC history, whilst Claudio Puelles picked up his third kneebar win for the promotion. Charles Jourdain and Marc-André Barriault both also picked up impressive submission victories, whilst the likes of Sergey Khandozhko and Tyson Pedro knocked their opponents out cold. If your were betting over at https://aviatorjeux.fr maybe you won big!?

In the following article, we’ll break down what we at Lowkick MMA believe are the fights to make after UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Lemos.

Jessica Andrade vs. Mackenzie Dern

Whilst Jessica Andrade did call out the winner of Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang 2, there is no knowing when either athlete will be in fighting shape once their bout is over, especially considering how the first fight played out.

Instead, a bout with BJJ specialist Mackenzie Dern makes much more sense. Dern recently defeated Tecia Torres in a competitive, and slightly controversial, three-round war. Currently sitting at No.4 in the strawweight rankings, a win over Dern could well place Andrade in the No.1 contender position.

Claudio Puelles vs. Mark Madsen

After submitting Clay Guida with a kneebar in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Lemos, Claudio Puelles has found himself on a five-fight winning streak. It is clearly time for the talented Peruvian to begin taking on that next level of opposition and forcing himself into that prestigious lightweight top 15.

Mark Madsen is a fighter in a very similar position, having recently defeated Vinc Pichel at UFC 273. Stylistically, a fight between the two men would be extremely intriguing. Madsen has a smothering wrestling-based game, a product of his time competing in the Olympics. However, in order to utilize this skill set, he would potentially be throwing himself right into danger, as Puelles’ submission grappling is among the most lethal in the division.

Maycee Barber vs. The Winner of Erin Blanchfield and JJ Aldrich

Whilst injuries and some slightly less than stellar performances have somewhat taken away the hype behind Maycee Barber, her performance at UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Lemos proved she is still very much a comeptetior in the women’s flyweight division. Barber dominated talented grappler Montana De La Rosa over three rounds, with her clinch work being particularly impressive.

Barber’s division is relatively booked up right now, so she will likely have to take the winner of one of the scheduled bout. A fight that would make a lot of sense for Barber would be against the winner of Erin Blanchfield and JJ Aldrich, both rising prospects who sit in similar positions to Barber in the rankings.

Blanchfield will likely be the favorite to win her fight with Aldrich, and with good reason. The young prospect has looked nothing short of sensation so far in her UFC career. If you are looking to back her, then Jeux de l Avion is the place to go for the best odds around.

Charles Jourdain vs. Edson Barboza

Charles Jourdain’s submission stoppage over Lando Vannata was especially impressive considering many believed it would be Vannata who would have the grappling advantage in this fight. Whilst it was Vannata who initiated the takedown, Jourdain was quick to react, locking up a tight guillotine that quickly had his opponent tapping.

Jourdain took to the mic and respectfully called out Edson Barboza. There doesn’t seem any reason not to book this fight, with Jourdain rising in the rankings and Barboza struggling as of late. It would be the perfect prospect vs. veteran matchup that would determine just how far Jourdain can go in this 145lb division.

Picks for the rest of UFC Fight Night: Andrade vs. Lemos

  • Amanda Lemos vs. Luana Pinheiro
  • Clay Guida vs. Rick Glenn
  • Montana De La Rosa vs. Gillian Robertson
  • Lando Vannata vs. Makwan Amirkhani
  • Marc-André Barriault vs. Puna Soriano
  • Jordan Wright vs. Abu Azaitar
  • Sergey Khandozhko vs. Jack Maddalena
  • Tyson Pedro vs. Alonzo Menifield
  • Aoriqileng vs. Chad Anheliger
  • Preston Parsons vs. Mike Malott
  • Phillipe Lins vs. Azamat Murzakanov
  • Dean Barry vs. Viacheslav Borshchev

Time will tell if the UFC agrees with these picks, but should you wish to begin making money on fights such as these, CNN has an article dealing what you need to know about online sports betting.

Former undisputed UFC strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade managed to land an extra $50,000 post-fight bonus following UFC Vegas 52 last night in Las Vegas, Nevada – stopping the #10 ranked contender, Amanda Lemos with a stunning, history-making standing arm triangle win in the first round

Jessica Andrade, who made her first Octagon outing at the strawweight limit since July 2020 in last night’s main event outing against compatriot, Lemos, entered her third promotional headliner off the back of a dominant flyweight win over Cynthia Calvillo back in September at UFC 266.

The Parana native managed to make good on her weight class return to boot last night, stopping Lemos with an Octagon-first standing arm triangle in the opening round.

Linking up with Lemos inside the clinch, Jessica Andrade quickly powered her fellow South American to the Octagon fence, sinking up in an eventual arm-triangle – and without tripping Lemos to the canvas, forcing the tap from a vertical position.

Earning a post-fight bonus, Andrade’s standing arm triangle win earned her a Performance of the Night bonus – scooping her eighth career submission win to boot.

The night’s co-headliner also produced our other Performance of the Night bonus, with Peruvian grappler, Claudio Puelles stopping promotional veteran, Clay Guida with a stunning opening frame kneebar submission win. Puelles managed to land his whopping third kneebar win in the UFC with last night’s victory, and comes as the only one in UFC antiquity to land more than one kneebar win.

Earning Fight of the Night bonuses, welterweight strikers, Dwight Grant and Sergey Khandozhko battled in a hard-fought two round affair – with the latter eventually rallying and finishing Grant with a knockout after suffering a knockdown of his own.

Jessica Andrade landed the strawweight championship with a slam KO win over current best, Rose Namajunas

With Andrade’s victory, the Brazilian moves herself into prime position to likely challenge for strawweight gold in the future again, ahead of next month’s undisputed title rematch between two-time opponent, champion, Rose Namajunas, and challenger, inaugural division-best, Carla Esparza.

Jessica Andrade, Weili Zhang, Joanna Jedrzejcyk

Jessica Andrade is looking to fight the winner of Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk after an exceptional submission win over Amanda Lemos.

At UFC Vegas 52, Andrade created history by tapping out Amanda Lemos with an incredible standing arm-triangle submission in the first round of the main event. ‘Bate Estaca’ became the first person ever in the UFC to have executed a standing variation of the traditional arm-triangle submission and win a fight.

Earning one of the evening’s “Performance of the Night” bonuses and an extra $50,000, Andrade marked her 14th UFC win and is now tied with Amanda Nunes for the most wins in women’s UFC history.

In the post-fight press conference, Andrade expressed her desire to fight the winner of Zhang and Jedrzejczyk 2 after a significant win. Having faced both Weili in 2019 and Jedrzejczyk in 2017, Andrade is looking to avenge either of her loss based on who comes out on top of that contest.

Weili Zhang vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk 2 set for UFC 275

In March 2020, fans around the world witnessed one of the best fights in women’s MMA history when Zhang brawled it out with Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248. While Weili edged out a split decision win over her Polish counterpart, the battle was closely contested in what many believed to have favored Jedrzejczyk.

UFC Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell told ESPN that a second fight between the two former champions has been verbally agreed for UFC 275. Perhaps, the greatest fight in women’s competition will go down again this June 11 in Singapore.

Jedrzejczyk will enter the bout unranked due to her two-year period of inactivity following her latest outing with Weili, who is bouncing off two losses to current UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas she suffered last year.

The winner of the match may have their next opponent already waiting for them in Andrade should they come to an agreement once the event has taken place.

Do you think Jessica Andrade will avenge her loss against either Jedrzejcyk or Weili Zhang?
