Jasmine Jasudavicius continues to come into her own, coming out on top in a historic bout against former title challenger Mayra Bueno Silva on the preliminary card of UFC Saudi Arabia.

The fight made promotional history in that it was the first women’s UFC bout to take place in the country.

It was all-around domination from Jasudavicius, who completely outstruck Bueno Silva in the first round and turned a takedown into nearly three minutes of control time — despite having to shove off a submission attempt from “Sheetara.”

Jasudavicius continued to outstrike Bueno Silva and scored another pair of takedown attempts over the next two rounds, combining for over four minutes more of control time, en route to sweeping the judges’ scorecards.

Jasmine Jasudavicius exited to represent the UFC and women’s MMA in Saudi Arabia

Jasudavicius, who hails from Canada, shared her excitement over the opportunity to make history and represent the sport in another country.

“Once I heard about that, I was so inspired,” Jasudavicius told MSN. “To be able to be the first to be able to represent women’s martial arts in another country like that, it’s such an honor. I don’t take it lightly. I really, really am appreciative. I want to make sure I put on a really good and represent women’s martial arts to the Saudi Arabian people.”

She rides into Riyadh on a three-fight win streak, including victories over Priscila Cachoeira, Fatima Kline, and Ariane Lipski da Silva. Overall, she is 6-2 under the UFC banner, 12-3 overall.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing what the culture’s like and experiencing it right then and there,” she added. “I feel like it’s going to be super-cool.”

Her opponent, Bueno Silva, will be looking to climb back into the win column after coming up short in her first UFC title fight against Raquel Pennington last January. She followed that up with a second-round TKO loss due to a doctor’s stoppage against Macy Chiasson at UFC 303 after suffering one of the worst cuts in promotional history.

Tracy Cortez remained undefeated inside the Octagon at Noche UFC, scoring a unanimous decision victory over Jasmine Jasudavicius.

Both women landed some solid strikes in the opening minutes, but Cortez began to let her hands go near the halfway point of the first round, scoring some solid combinations, including a big right hand that snapped Jasudavicius’ head back. Tired of being a punching bag, Jasudavicius attempted to shoot in for a takedown with 90 seconds to go, but Cortez defended perfectly. A minute later, Jasudavicius closed the distance and landed some solid knees in the clinch, but Cortez was again able to defend and separate to close the round.

Tracy Cortez picked up right where she left off in the second round, counter-striking as Jasudavicius attempted to pressure Cortez against the fence. Halfway through the second, Jasudavicius secured her first takedown of the fight, but Cortez was able to work her way back up. Switching to a double leg, Jasudavicius dragged Cortez back down, but it wasn’t long before Cortez again fought her way upright and finished the round on her feet.

With the bout potentially even, Jasudavicius appeared to be much more confident in the third, closing the distance early and backing Cortez up against the fence. Able to once again defend the takedown, Cortez freed herself from the grip of Jasudavicius and escaped. Jasudavicius remained relentless, putting a ton of pressure on Cortez. With just over a minute left, Jasudavicius landed a nice knee up the middle followed by a glancing head kick.

Things got a little chippy between both women as the clock ran down, closing a fantastic three-round war between two of the flyweight division’s most promising prospects.

Official Result: Tracy Cortez def. Jasmin Jasudavicius via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

UFC flyweight Jasmine Jasudavicius’ MMA beginnings were something that most feel would’ve been straight out of a movie about fighting.

Jasudavicius began training in MMA at 26 years old in her native Canada. She trains under Niagara Top Team with other top prospects such as Aaron Jeffery and Anthony Romero.

Jasudavicius is set to face Natalia Silva at UFC Austin tomorrow night (June 18). She’s coming off of a UFC debut win over Kay Hansen at UFC 270 earlier this year.

Jasudavicius earned her shot in the UFC after earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series. Like many fighters who have competed on the show, her journey to the Octagon was anything but status quo.

During an exclusive interview with MMA News, Jasudavicius revealed how her MMA journey began in the basement of the Blue Star restaurant in Welland, Ontario, CA.

“There was a group of us that would train together,” Jasudavicius said. “There was six or eight of us. And, we would just meet every day at 11 and one of the guys, his sponsor owned the restaurant and that used to be an old Judo gym. But, no one used it anymore, but the mats were still there. The owner said ‘hey if you and your friends wanna use it anytime, go for it’, so that was our first gym. We would have to walk through the kitchen to get in there, there was grease stains on the mat, there’s no heater, nothing. It was a different experience.

“There was no bathroom. It was always flooded or there was no water there. It was so weird, but there was always those issues having to do with that.”

During the time Jasudavicius trained in this unorthodox environment, she put on some of the best performances of her career including finishes over Christina Adcock and Gabriella Gulfin.

Now, Jasudavicius splits time between American Top Team in Florida and Canada at Niagara Top Team. She started from humble beginnings and plans on using it to motivate her towards a potential flyweight run.
