Matt Brown thinks James Krause chanced his luck one too many times.

It was announced last week that anyone associated with Krause or his gym Glory MMA would not be allowed to compete in the UFC. This stems from an investigation into Krause’s involvement with suspicious betting activity on a fight involving Darrick Minner, a fighter he trains and corners.

This story has rocked the MMA world and has even resulted in some states banning placing bets on UFC events and no fighters signed to the organization can place bets on UFC fights including through third parties.

UFC veteran Matt Brown, who has previously dealings with Krause gave his two cents on the situation, saying that he always thought highly of the 36-year-old but admitting that he may be in too deep to come back from.

I always thought he was a good dude,” Brown said about Krause on The Fighter vs. The Writer. “Very, very smart with coaching, very smart with business stuff. I actually picked up some tips from him for business stuff, he’s a very intelligent guy.

“Sounds like he went to the well one too many times on this one though, right? He reached a little too far, overstepped his boundaries and now he’s looking like Pete Rose out here. Long story short, James Krause is f****d. Everything he’s worked for is going down the drain from this. I’ve never seen anything like this.” (H/T MMAFighting)

Brown is currently coming off a loss to fellow welterweight Bryan Barberena back in March of this year. ‘The Immortal’ does not have an opponent booked but at 41 years old, it will be one of the last for the MMA legend.

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker has issued a statement regarding the investigation of James Krause’s suspicious betting activities following UFC Vegas 64.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Krause on November 18th following a bout earlier in the month between Darrick Minner, who trains with Krause, and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke. Hours before the bout, betting lines swung massively in favor of Nuerdanbieke to win inside the distance. It was later revealed that Minner had shown up for the bout with an undisclosed leg injury sustained prior to the event. Minner has since been released by the promotion.

As a result of the investigation, the gaming control board in New Jersey has announced sanctions against James Krause directly while the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Ontario have prohibited UFC betting altogether. In a prepared statement courtesy of MMA Fighting, Coker fully supports the UFC’s actions to help protect the “integrity of MMA.”

“As a lifelong martial artist, integrity and honor have been the foundation upon which I have built my career as a Mixed Martial Arts promoter, and I believe that it is of utmost importance that the integrity of MMA remains unquestioned,” Coker stated in the release. “It is my understanding that certain regulatory agencies have taken action that they deem necessary to ensure that any appearance of impropriety is removed from our sport, and I support those actions.

Bellator MMA is a promotion that highly values the importance of independent regulation of our sport, and we will continue to abide by the mandates of the regulatory bodies which sanction and oversee our events.”

Brandon Moreno Shares His Support For James Krause Amid Controversy

The UFC’s chief business officer Hunter Campbell released a statement on Friday revealing that any fighters who continue to be coached by James Krause or train at his gym, Glory MMA and Fitness, will not be permitted to compete under the UFC banner.

“UFC has since advised Krause and the respective managers working with impacted fighters, that effective immediately, fighters who choose to continue to be coached by Krause or who continue to train in his gym, will not be permitted to participate in UFC events pending the outcome of the aforementioned government investigations.”

James Krause’s most notable student today is UFC interim flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno. ‘The Assassin Baby’ is scheduled for a title unification bout with division rival Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283 on January 21st when the promotion heads back to Brazil. Moreno shared support for his coach on Instagram, sharing a photo of the two embracing one another with the caption, “Waiting for justice.”

UFC flyweight championship holder, Deiveson Figueiredo has blasted incoming opponent, interim titleholder, Brandon Moreno his association with GLORY MMA & Fitness head coach, James Krause – labelling him a “fight fixer” and promising to KO the interim gold holder in January.

Slated to feature at UFC 283 in January in his return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, flyweight kingpin, Deiveson Figueiredo will meet interim gold holder, Moreno for the fourth time in the pair’s respective careers – with the former regaining the title with a decision win at UFC 270 in January of this year.

First meeting Moreno back in December 2020, Figueiredo managed to retain his championship in a split draw against the Baja California favorite, before suffering a title loss via submission the following year.

Meeting for the third time at the beginning of this year, Figueiredo defeated Moreno in a close decision win, setting up a fourth title fight between the two for January in the organization’s return to Brazil.

Deiveson Figueiredo promises to KO Brandon Moreno at UFC 283 in Brazil

Commenting on Moreno’s relationship with the aforenoted, Krause, who has seen his license suspended in Nevada by the state athletic commission amid an investigation following the flagging of suspicious betting activity, Figueiredo promised to knockout Moreno in January next.

“What a cute couple!” Deiveson Figueiredo tweeted. “A traitor working with a man who fixes fights. Ain’t no fixing this fight so tell your ex-coach to bet the house because I’m knocking your traitor ass out! @Assassinbaby (Brandon Moreno).”

Figueiredo’s comments come off the back of an official statement release from the UFC, who confirmed last night that should any fighter on their roster continue to train at Krause’s gym or under the tutelage of the organizational alum, they would be prohibited from taking part in events hosted by the UFC.

First winning the vacant flyweight championship in July of 2020, Figueiredo stopped Joseph Benavidez in a title rematch on ‘Fight Island’ – submitting the veteran with a first round submission after scoring multiple knockdowns.

Due to multiple investigations into James Krause suspicious sports betting, the UFC has cut ties with the coach and former fighter James Krause and any fighters associated with him or his gym.

Krause was an MMA coach who was a renowned UFC gambler, including betting on his own fighters he coached. He had a Discord and YouTube dedicated to offering gambling advice.

In early November, a Krause-coached fighter Darrick Minner fought with an injury and lost in the first round via TKO. Hours ahead of the fight, a sudden shift occurred in which thousands of dollars were placed on his opponent, Shayilan Nuerdanbieke, winning by way of a first-round TKO. This event has begun an investigation into James Krause, who has now deleted his Discord and YouTube. Additionally, Canadian provinces Ontario and Alberta have discontinued all UFC betting.

UFC cuts all James Krause fighters

On Friday, the UFC released a statement regarding James Krause. On their website, they declared:

“UFC has since advised Krause and the respective managers working with impacted fighters, that effective immediately, fighters who choose to continue to be coached by Krause or who continue to train in his gym, will not be permitted to participate in UFC events pending the outcome of the aforementioned government investigations.  Further, UFC has released Darrick Minner from the organization.”

Sports betting is a pillar of the UFC with many big-name gambling sponsors and casinos working alongside the UFC. The statement added that the UFC has been cooperating with all ongoing investigations into the matter:

“UFC has been cooperating with multiple ongoing government investigations into the facts and circumstances surrounding that contest. On November 18, the Nevada State Athletic Commission informed UFC and Minner’s coach, James Krause, that Krause’s license was suspended and would remain so while NSAC conducted an investigation into the matter. “

Most notable, Interim UFC Flyweight Champion Brandon Moreno was booked for a title unification bout against Deiveson Figueiredo in January 2023. Moreno will be forced to change coaches or drop-out form the fight. On Instagram, the Mexican-born athlete shared:

“Waiting for justice.”
