It was recently revealed that UFC staple Darren Till was released by the organization as per his request. ‘The Gorilla’ spoke with UFC director Hunter Campbell and requested a release from his contract so he could rehabilitate ongoing knee injuries.

Darren Till may have stayed in the UFC however, some of the work he required on his knee may have flagged problems with USADA. In an interview with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, Darren Till explained:

“I want to get some injections in my knee and really take care of my knees. Some of the stuff I want to inject into my knee, am I going to pass some of these tests? There are a lot of hurdles. Maybe I’ll get surgery.” [Transcript courtesy of Sportskeeda]

Darren Till on his UFC release

The UFC middleweight fighter says that he has been struggling with ongoing knee issues for quite some time. Darren Till has earned a record of 1-4 over four years and has dropped out of three booked matches due to injuries

While speaking in an interview with MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn, Till explained:

“I’ve been suffering for the past two years, and it’s no secret I think now, at this point. Obviously, I’ve been speaking to Hunter ever since my (Robert) Whittaker fight where I injured my knees. He’s been going crazy at me for like two years. He’s like, ‘Till, I can’t take much more of this.’ He’s like, ‘I’ve got your back, I know you’re going to be a champ.’ Stuff like that he says to me. But he’s like, ‘You need to get your knees right.’ He said this before my last fight, and said it before the fight before that.”

The English-born fighter has been walking around with a torn ACL and MCL. He continued:

“I’ve got a torn ACL in my right knee. Whittaker fight, I tore my MCL. Eight weeks before I fought Derek Brunson, I tore my ACL in the same knee, and the other one is a torn MCL. So, the other one’s not that bad, but the right one, a torn ACL, you don’t get no worse. Every grade is tore.”

Darren Till requested release from the UFC but the two parties still have a good working relationship. ‘The Gorilla’ Till says that he will most likely return to the UFC in the future. He added:

“Maybe I want to leave the UFC for like two years, and just maybe venture out, and obviously look out for my health for two years, and come back and stuff like that. I had a good conversation with him … I’m thinking I’ll be back, no matter what you say, I know I will. Like, we’ve got a good relationship. It’s not like you kicked me out the UFC, I’m asking to be released, and you’re releasing me.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie]

Dricus Du Plessis, Darren Till

Dricus Du Plessis has reacted to recent opponent Darren Till’s sudden UFC departure.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Till was dropped from UFC’s ranking pool. The Liverpool, England native confirmed his UFC exit on Twitter on Wednesday. The former welterweight title contender said he asked and was granted his release.

Till last fought in December at UFC 282, where he was submitted by Du Plessis.

During an interview with James Lynch, Du Plessis spoke about his reaction towards Till’s potential UFC departure. The interview occurred before Till confirmed the news.

Yeah, I saw that. That would be a real pity,” Du Plessis said. “I was hoping that he’d get another shot and maybe, you know, tighten up his mind, tighten up everything, get the right people around him, and go back to 170 and give this another real shot. I don’t think there’s space for him at 185, but I really hoped the old Darren Till could go back to 170 and make another run.” (h/t MMA News)

“The Gorilla” is expected to gain interest from several other organizations.

Now, Du Plessis is the last fighter that Till faced in the UFC. The South Africa native will face Derek Brunson on Saturday at UFC 285.

Darren Till Uriah Hall UFC Karate Combat

Karate Combat head-honcho, Adam S. Kovacs has offered former UFC middleweight contenders, Darren Till, and Uriah Hall the opportunity to end their long-standing rivalry under the promotion’s banner – urging the striking duo to take their talents to ‘The Pit’ in the future.

Earlier this Wednesday afternoon, former UFC welterweight title challenger, Till, confirmed his departure from the Dana White-led banner – explaining how the promotion had granted him his release from his current contract, however, stressed his intentions to return to the Octagon in the near future.

As for Hall, the Spanish Town striker and Ultimate Fighter alum ended his storied tenure with the UFC back in the summer of last year following a submission loss to recent impromptu UFC Vegas 70 main event feature, Andre Muniz.

Prior to his July loss to the Brazilian, Hall, who has since retired from professional mixed martial arts competition – was campaigning for a fight with the aforenoted Team Kaobon staple, Darren Till for the promotion’s second outing in London last year, with the bout ultimately failing to come to fruition.

Karate Combat offer to host Darren Till, Uriah Hall grudge match following UFC release

And upon the confirmation of Till’s release from the UFC this week, the above-mentioned, Kovacs offered to host a fight between the Liverpool striker and Hall under the scrutiny of Karate Combate – pointing to the latter’s prior war of words with the former welterweight title challenger.

Gents, now that you are free, would you like to settle this in the @KarateCombat pit?” Adam S. Kovacs tweeted. “@darrentill2 @UriahHallMMA.”

Suffering three consecutive losses to end his topsy-turvy tenure with the UFC, Darren Till most recently suffered a third round submission loss to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 282 back in December of last year, which followed a rear-naked choke loss to soon-to-be common-opponent, Derek Brunson – and a decision blemish against former champion, Robert Whittaker.
