Ahead of Saturday’s anticipated pay-per-view event at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, Dana White appeared on Straight Talk with Mark Bouris and once again proceeded to sing the praises of the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion.

“You know the answer to this question. It’s—it’s absolutely, positively Jon Jones,” White said when asked who he sees as the greatest fighter of all time. “Jon Jones is the best ever. You know, it’s become this running joke almost now, but listen—nobody can debate it. Nobody can debate that Jon Jones is the greatest to ever live.

“I don’t just say this in UFC. In MMA, ever. In history. You know, if you look at his skill set and what he’s able to do compared to boxers or anybody else that’s ever fought—Jon Jones beats everybody. Jon Jones is the best ever.”

White may think the answer to the great GOAT debate is clear, but Daniel Cormier believes that all of Jones’ “dirty sh*t” outside the Octagon disqualifies him from being branded as the best ever.

Should Jon Jones’ Dirty Deeds Outside the Octagon Affect his GOAT Status?

Aside from being a two-division UFC champion, Jon Jones has bested some of the biggest names in mixed martial arts history, including Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira, Daniel Cormier, Ciryl Gane, and Stipe Miocic.

Unfortunately, Jones’ career has been also rife with controversy. Over the years, he’s found himself in legal trouble due to both drug and domestic abuse-related charges. In April 2015, he was wanted for leaving the scene of a car accident that left a pregnant woman injured.

In early 2024, Jones once again found himself in hot water after he allegedly threatened to kill a drug testing agent who was attempting to collect a sample at his home in Albuquerque.

Outside of his troubles with John Q. Law, Jones has had his fair share of anti-doping violations, one of which resulted in his third-round TKO against Cormier at UFC 214 being overturned to a no-contest.

‘Bones’ also holds the distinction of being the only fighter in UFC history to be stripped of a championship not once, but twice.

Dana White, the businessman credited for the UFC’s rise, has no biases. He believes that having the desired fighting skills is the only basis on which a fighter can expect to be part of his promotion.

In a recent interview with Mark Bouris leading up to UFC 312 in Australia, the UFC CEO was asked:

“When you go out to put people into the UFC, you got your contender’s series. Are you looking for individuals who are happy to express themselves like as part or just the skill?”

White had a straightforward answer.

“Skills. You can be a deaf-mute, if you’re a bad*** I’m that’s what I’m interested in. I’m interested in how good are you at fighting. If you have a personality like Conor and Ronda and these others, that’s just, you know that’s just a homerun, it doesn’t suck.”

Although White is aware that the UFC is a star-driven business, he still believes that a diverse skillset and potent fighting style make the foundation of a fighter he’d want fighting under his banner.

By keeping skill as an entry barrier, the UFC ensures that the champions in every weight class are always reaching that pinnacle after fighting the best competition available in the world. In contrast, other promotions like PFL and ONE Championship are yet to make such an image among the fans.

The UFC also keeps the competition healthy by constantly signing new names in all their divisions. From picking up the local superstars from regional circuits to poaching established names from the PFL, One Championship, and RIZIN, there are many ways to go about this.

The UFC middleweight champion is all set to defend his title for the second time this Saturday night in a grudge-fueled rematch against former champ Sean Strickland. In an interview with Mark Bouris, the South African made a ruthless admission.

The 31-year-old not only claimed that he’ll be willing to die in the ring to emerge victorious like any other MMA fighter, but he took things further and also confessed to be fine with killing a man in front of his family if needed.

In another interview by Bouris, Dana White had this to say when the host reminded him about Du Plessis’ remarks:

“All of these guys, I mean if you go in and you’re going to stand toe-to-toe for five rounds. And remember, you can punch, kick, knee, elbow, take a shin to the head, all I mean, these people are wired differently than the rest of us. That’s what makes professional fighters and especially in MMA so different as far as humans go.”

White explained that the lack of this killer instinct is why there’s only a few MMA world champions out there. Considering he’s been dealing with such personalities for decades now, he definitely understands them more than an average human.

“There’s this many of them right here, that become world champions and have that type of mindset. They’re not wired like you and I. They’re different, they’re special human beings and yeah, I mean, I think that’s all of their mindset when they go in and fight.”

There is no doubt MMA fighters are modern-day gladiators and “Stillknocks” is clearly a fighter who’s embraced this mindset in the perfect way. He’s calm, composed, and collected outside the Octagon but only wreaks havoc as soon as the time to fight begins.

Unlike the previous outing against Strickland which ended in a razor-close split decision win, Du Plessis aims to resolve the rivalry with a KO victory this time around.

White didn’t take kindly to Batista questioning his friend’s masculinity and slammed the outspoken Hollywood star during a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

“Everybody wants to talk smack,” White said. “Batista, the old wrestler, did this skit on Trump being weak and all this stuff — that I thought was disgusting and gross. Let me tell you what: Batista and anybody else out there, the way that Trump reacted to that assassination attempt, every man hopes that’s the way you would react. Dana White lauds Trump’s dedication to religion

White also spoke at length about Trump’s dedication to religion and his belief that God spared his life in July so that he could once again move into the White House and “do the things he’s gonna do” throughout his second term.

“He believes in God and he’s very religious,” White said about Trump. “He believes that to his core, that God has spared his life to be the President and do the things that he’s gonna do over the next four years. Me and [Joe] Rogan have talked about this. Me and Rogan, I guess you would say, are not spiritual. If you had to put me on a platform to debate that there wasn’t some type of divine intervention, I’d literally have no ammo to debate that. It’s pretty crazy, it gives me the goosebumps.”

During a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the UFC CEO was asked who he believes is the most dangerous fighter in the UFC right now. While White offered up some notable names like Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, Islam Makhachev, and Ilia Topuria, he shockingly snubbed Pereira, much to the chagrin of fight fans.

“Jon Jones is still the best ever, the best of all time,” White said. “But we have tons of guys that are [dangerous]. Islam [Makhachev], who is now the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I mean, the list goes on and on. Ilia Topuria is one of the best of all time. Max Holloway is still one of the nastiest guys on the planet. Lots and lots of really tough guys.”

UFC fans slam Dana White’s ‘Most Dangerous’ List

While some fans pointed out that White overlooked names like Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev, many were in agreement that ‘Poatan’ should have at the very least been listed among the above names, if not above them.

“Surprised he didn’t mention Alex Pereira in that group,” one user commented. “That’s the only one I’d add to the most dangerous guys in the UFC right now.”

“How did Alex Pereira not pop up in his head during this moment,” another questioned.

“Most dangerous is ‘Poatan’ and Topuria cause they can knock you into another dimension,” a third wrote.

Pereira, of course, has been on an absolute tear since making his promotional debut just a few short years ago. In just 10 fights inside the Octagon, he’s claimed both the middleweight and light heavyweight titles and earned wins over a slew of former champions, including Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, Jan Blachowicz, Jamahal Hill, Khalil Rountree, and Jiri Prochazka twice.

To many, ‘Poatan’ is not just the baddest man in the UFC, but he’s the promotion’s biggest active star. He’s also been a consummate company man, defending his title twice in the span of nine weeks between his appearances at UFC 300 and UFC 303.

He’ll go for a fourth-straight defense on March 8 when he returns to the Octagon for a clash with the division’s top-ranked contender, Magomed Ankalaev, at UFC 313 in Las Vegas.
