Bellator MMA President Scott Coker has issued a statement regarding the investigation of James Krause’s suspicious betting activities following UFC Vegas 64.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Krause on November 18th following a bout earlier in the month between Darrick Minner, who trains with Krause, and Shayilan Nuerdanbieke. Hours before the bout, betting lines swung massively in favor of Nuerdanbieke to win inside the distance. It was later revealed that Minner had shown up for the bout with an undisclosed leg injury sustained prior to the event. Minner has since been released by the promotion.

As a result of the investigation, the gaming control board in New Jersey has announced sanctions against James Krause directly while the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Ontario have prohibited UFC betting altogether. In a prepared statement courtesy of MMA Fighting, Coker fully supports the UFC’s actions to help protect the “integrity of MMA.”

“As a lifelong martial artist, integrity and honor have been the foundation upon which I have built my career as a Mixed Martial Arts promoter, and I believe that it is of utmost importance that the integrity of MMA remains unquestioned,” Coker stated in the release. “It is my understanding that certain regulatory agencies have taken action that they deem necessary to ensure that any appearance of impropriety is removed from our sport, and I support those actions.

Bellator MMA is a promotion that highly values the importance of independent regulation of our sport, and we will continue to abide by the mandates of the regulatory bodies which sanction and oversee our events.”

Brandon Moreno Shares His Support For James Krause Amid Controversy

The UFC’s chief business officer Hunter Campbell released a statement on Friday revealing that any fighters who continue to be coached by James Krause or train at his gym, Glory MMA and Fitness, will not be permitted to compete under the UFC banner.

“UFC has since advised Krause and the respective managers working with impacted fighters, that effective immediately, fighters who choose to continue to be coached by Krause or who continue to train in his gym, will not be permitted to participate in UFC events pending the outcome of the aforementioned government investigations.”

James Krause’s most notable student today is UFC interim flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno. ‘The Assassin Baby’ is scheduled for a title unification bout with division rival Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 283 on January 21st when the promotion heads back to Brazil. Moreno shared support for his coach on Instagram, sharing a photo of the two embracing one another with the caption, “Waiting for justice.”

UFC flyweight championship holder, Deiveson Figueiredo has blasted incoming opponent, interim titleholder, Brandon Moreno his association with GLORY MMA & Fitness head coach, James Krause – labelling him a “fight fixer” and promising to KO the interim gold holder in January.

Slated to feature at UFC 283 in January in his return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, flyweight kingpin, Deiveson Figueiredo will meet interim gold holder, Moreno for the fourth time in the pair’s respective careers – with the former regaining the title with a decision win at UFC 270 in January of this year.

First meeting Moreno back in December 2020, Figueiredo managed to retain his championship in a split draw against the Baja California favorite, before suffering a title loss via submission the following year.

Meeting for the third time at the beginning of this year, Figueiredo defeated Moreno in a close decision win, setting up a fourth title fight between the two for January in the organization’s return to Brazil.

Deiveson Figueiredo promises to KO Brandon Moreno at UFC 283 in Brazil

Commenting on Moreno’s relationship with the aforenoted, Krause, who has seen his license suspended in Nevada by the state athletic commission amid an investigation following the flagging of suspicious betting activity, Figueiredo promised to knockout Moreno in January next.

“What a cute couple!” Deiveson Figueiredo tweeted. “A traitor working with a man who fixes fights. Ain’t no fixing this fight so tell your ex-coach to bet the house because I’m knocking your traitor ass out! @Assassinbaby (Brandon Moreno).”

Figueiredo’s comments come off the back of an official statement release from the UFC, who confirmed last night that should any fighter on their roster continue to train at Krause’s gym or under the tutelage of the organizational alum, they would be prohibited from taking part in events hosted by the UFC.

First winning the vacant flyweight championship in July of 2020, Figueiredo stopped Joseph Benavidez in a title rematch on ‘Fight Island’ – submitting the veteran with a first round submission after scoring multiple knockdowns.

UFC 283 is almost a done deal in Brazil earlier next year with a 4th fight between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo as a possible headliner.

Brazil has been a cornerstone in mixed martial arts since it’s inception, having produced some of the greatest talents in MMA history. UFC has made a point of visiting numerous Brazilian cities over the years, however, it hasn’t been back since the pandemic started. With over 2 years having passed since a UFC Brazil card, the early reports have the UFC linked with Rio de Janeiro at the end of January 2023, with the current Brazilian champ Deiveson Figueiredo reportedly set to unify the featherweight title against Brandon Moreno as first reported by Rodrigo Del Campo Gonzalez.

Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo IV could possibly headline UFC’s return to Brazil

Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo have had one of the best UFC rivalries in recent memory, as the two 125ers have exchanged the belt between each other multiple times over the past couple of years. They first shared the Octagon in a 2020 fight of the year candidate, where Brandon Moreno gave Figueiredo his toughest fight up to that point. However, he failed to capture UFC gold as the fight ended up a draw after Figueiredo was deducted a point in the 3rd round.

The two rematched a few months later in June 2021, where Moreno shocked the world by running through Figueiredo as he choked out the champ in the 3rd round, becoming the first ever Mexican-born UFC champion in the process.

However, despite Brandon Moreno looking levels above Figueiredo in their 2nd fight, the trilogy would be vastly different as Figueiredo displayed better technique and grappling skills along with a new coaching staff that included Henry Cejudo. Figueiredo got his belt back from Moreno via a unanimous decision at UFC 270.

Brandon Moreno earned a 4th crack at Figueiredo after his impressive TKO win over Kai Kara-France earlier this year.

It’s rare to get two high-level fighters to fight each other more than once, let alone 4 times, but the Brazilian fans will get the pleasure of cheering on their fellow Brazilian, as both Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo will attempt to break the 1-1-1 tie between the two at UFC 283.
