Bo Nickal

Bo Nickal has withdrawn from his previously scheduled debut at UFC 282.

Per a report from Nolan King of MMA Junkie, mixed martial arts prospect Bo Nickal will no longer make his promotional debut on December 12th for UFC 282 in Las Vegas. After two straight dominant victories on Dana White’s Contender Series, the former college wrestling national champion was set to make his official Octagon debut against Jamie Pickett. Per the report, Nickal withdrew from the contest due to an injury.

Fans will have to wait just a little bit longer before seeing Bo Nickal on the big stage. The three-time Big Ten champion is now slated to debut on March 4th. With no official announcements as of yet, that date is rumored to be UFC 285, main evented by the highly anticipated trilogy bout between welterweight champion Leon Edwards and former titleholder Kamaru Usman. Dana White recently suggested that the same card could also feature a high-profile welterweight bout between a returning Colby Covington and the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. Jamie Pickett is expected to remain as Nickal’s opponent for the event.

Bo Nickal and Khamzat Chimaev Could Share the Same Card in March

Bo Nickal sent shockwaves through the MMA community with back-to-back first-round submission victories on Dana White‘s Contender Series over a six-week timeframe. He got their attention once again when he targeted Chechen-born Khamzat Chimaev in his post-fight interview. During an appearance on ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani after earning his UFC contract, Nickal doubled down on his callout of Chimaev.

“First off, this dude talks about he’s ready to go always, he’s a gangster, this and that – bro, you can’t even beat the scale,” Nickal said on ‘The MMA Hour.’ “What are you doing? This is just a dude that has no accountability, who doesn’t treat the sport professionally. That makes me way less nervous to fight him in the future, because we’re going to fight, and I know that he’s not committed like I am. He’s not willing to do the things that I’m willing to do. Yeah, he’s talented. Yeah, he has skills. But if that’s how you approach the sport, if that’s how you treat it, we’re on different levels.

“People will act like I’m talking crazy, because I say I’m ready to go. Chimaev, let’s get it. But the reality is this dude won three national titles in Sweden and then came into MMA and has 10 fights. I’ve been competing since I was 5. I had 120-plus NCAA wrestling matches. I won a U-23 world championship. I’m coming with 10 times the experience you have. So when people say, ‘You’re not ready, stay in your lane,’ y’all don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. So you’ll see what happens once we get in the cage.”

Now it appears the two fighters could find themselves in London for UFC 285 should everything go according to plan. With Khamzat Chimaev’s penchant for causing chaos, we could be in for some major fireworks long before Baba O’Riley graces the stadium speakers.

Over the last two years, the promotion has fielded its usual who’s who of talent including the likes of Conor McGregor, Francis Ngannou, Jorge Masvidal, Charles Oliveira, Alexander Volkanovski, Kamaru Usman, and Israel Adesanya – however, the next crop of fighters emerging at the very top of the sport continue to take a foothold.

Just last month, one of the UFC’s biggest and most exciting talents and prospects, undefeated Chechen-born fighter, Khamzat Chimaev continued his dominant run at welterweight, retaining his #3 rank with a one-sided submission win against Kevin Holland.

The AllStars MMA mainstay is threatening to spearhead a new era of fighter in professional mixed martial arts since his transition from the amateur ranks. And over the course of 2023, expect him to be joined in the fray by some of the most noteworthy emerging talents.

Shavkat Rakhmonov

Climbing as high as #10 in the welterweight rankings already, Rakhmonov, who draws Geoff Neal in January, is the proud owner of a 16-0 record, landing eight knockouts to go with eight separate submission wins. The former M-1 Global titleholder has been tipped to reach similar heights as the aforenoted weight class compatriot, Chimaev.

Booking a quickfire UFC 282 debut at the end of this year, Nickal, a native of Colorado earned his Octagon deal with a triangle win over Donovan Beard on DWCS – and will draw Jamie Pickett in December.

Already linked to a fight with the likes of Chimaev, and middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya, Nickal, who has been a staple of training camps for the likes of Jorge Masvidal, and Dustin Poirier is set to take the sport by storm next year.

Nassourdine Imavov

MMA Factory Paris prospect, Nassourdine Imavov turned in another impressive win – on adopted home soil last time out, no less, defeating Joaquin Buckley in Paris last month. And off the back of the win, the Dagestan-born prospect has landed his first headliner under the UFC banner in the form of a January outing against Kelvin Gastelum.

A product of Fernand Lopez in France, Imavov has already defeated the likes of Edmen Shahbazyan, and Ian Heinisch, en route to the #12 rank at middleweight.

Erin Blanchfield

An alum of the talent-rich Invicta FC system under the guidance of Shannon Knapp, the 23-year-old flyweight upstart, Erin Blanchfield has turned in a trio of UFC victories already since her debut just last year.

Landing in the Octagon in September the year prior boasting a 6-1 record, Blanchfield, who fights the popular Molly McCann at UFC 281 in November at Madison Square Garden has clinched the #12 rank at flyweight with wins over Sarah Alpar, Miranda Maverick, and most recently, JJ Aldrich with a June submission.

Michael Chandler, Bo Nickal

Michael Chandler gave his take on Bo Nickal‘s potential after an impressive start in MMA.

Nickal made his way into the UFC through Dana White‘s Contender Series, where he made a quick turnaround in a month and defeated both his opponents in about a minute to earn the promotional contract. He has his eyes set on the title and joins the roster as one of the most hyped prospects ever.

Michael Chandler is impressed with what he has seen from Bo Nickal

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Chandler shared his thoughts on the arrival of Nickal to the UFC.

“I mean, he has been very impressive thus far,” Chandler said (transcribed by MMA News). “I think he’s got the right mentality. Bo, I think he’s got a good head on his shoulders. He was always that guy. He had that reputation inside college wrestling; a good guy who worked hard, was part of a good team, had a good morale compass, knew how to keep it clean off the mat but freaking crazy on the mat.”

Chandler thinks Nickal is ‘championship material’ but isn’t entirely sure

Having spent more than a decade as a professional MMA fighter, Chandler has experienced seeing many rising stars either make it or crumble on their way to the top. While he does believe Nickal could be champion one day, he left the room open for error in his judgment.

“I think he’s got a very bright future. Do I think he’s gonna be the champion? I’ve been around this sport long enough to know there have been so many guys I thought were going to be so great but ended up fizzling out, and there’s been some I thought would be average and ended up being world beaters and champions. You never quite know. If I had to put money on it, I think Bo Nickal is gonna be championship material one day.”
