Press Release – Headlining the card will be Strikeforce Veteran and submission specialist Bill ‘The Grill’ Cooper.

Describing Cooper as a “submission specialist” might seem as an understatement to some. He was, at the time, the youngest American to receive a BJJ black belt at the age of 20. He began competing in Grapplers Quest at the age of 15 and has collected 27 championships along the way. Cooper will take on San Diego native Scott ‘K.O.’ Catlin. Catlin pulled off a knockout upset win over former UFC vet Gabe ‘Godzilla’ Ruediger last March at Badbeat 5. The BJJ practitioner Cooper (3-1) will have his hands full when he faces the heavy-handed Catlin (8-5). The fight card does not taper off after the Main Event.

Co-Main Event: Dizak v Guymon

Mike ‘The Joker’ Guymon (13-5-1), a former UFC veteran and KOTC Champion, will attempt to continue his winning ways against Xtreme Couture’s Mike Dizak (5-4). Last January Guymon began a new chapter in his fighting career when he decided to drop down to a new weight class, the 155 lbs division. In March ‘Joker’ reached his goal of 155 lbs and defeated Cris ‘The Lightning’ Leyva via TKO in the 2nd round of his bout at Badbeat 5. While Guymon is coming off a very emotional win, Mike Dizak has other plans in mind. The Las Vegas native Dizak, who was under the tutelage of Shawn Thompkins before his passing, is excited to be making his BAMMA USA debut at Badbeat 6 against Guymon.

Main Card Notes

‘The Real Deal’ Chris Beal comes into Badbeat 6 on a 5-fight winning streak. Top prospect and undefeated bantamweight will be tested against MMA veteran Kana Hyatt. Beal’s last fight ended with a body slam and TKO stoppage of Jose Morales in the 1st round of Badbeat 5. Hyatt’s last fight for BAMMA USA was at Badbeat 1, where he lost via unaminous decision against current UFC fighter Jared Papazian.

A couple of MMA veterans make their BAMMA USA debut in the bout between Tom ‘ The Grinder’ Gloudeman (6-1) and Steve ‘The Dream’ Magdaleno (8-3). Magdaleno comes into this fight on a 2-fight winning streak, however the versatile Gloudeman will attempt to break that streak and record his 7th win of his MMA career.

The Badbeat 6 Main Card opens up with a highly anticipated fight between two undefeated top prospects. Mike Jasper (3-0), out of Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA, will face Team Quest’s Manny Murillo (4-0). In their last 3 bouts, both ‘Sergeant’ Murillo and Jasper have won their fights via TKO. Expect more of the same when they put their undefeated records on the line.

Ticket prices range from $60 to $150. Online ticket orders available through TicketForce. Please contact BAMMA USA for VIP Table opportunities, by calling 714.912.8822 or visiting http://www.BammaUSA.com

Nate Marquardt vs. Tyron Woodley Possible for Vacant Strikeforce Welterweight Title

Nate Marquardt Free CagePotato
(Pictured above: The REAL reason Nate Marquardt got fired.)

When taking a look at Nate Marquardt‘s Sherdog profile, we were kind of shocked to find that it has only been a little over a year since he last fought. Perhaps it was a result of his repeated delays when signed under the BAMMA banner some 6 months ago, but it feels like it has been a long time since we’ve seen the one-time UFC middleweight title contender in action. Like Gina Carano long.

And go figure, it all began with TRT. Because it always begins with TRT. After going 2-2 in his last four UFC fights, including a most recent UD win over Dan Miller at UFC 128, Marquardt was expected to make his welterweight debut against Rick Story at the main event of UFC Live 4. Things took a turn for the worse, however, when he was pulled from the card at the last minute for elevated testosterone levels. He was subsequently ousted by the UFC and replaced by Charlie Brenneman, who went on to score the upset over Story and completely derail his hype train.

News broke in February that Marquardt had signed with Strikeforce and was expected to face Tyron Woodley. No date was set for his ever-elusive welterweight debut, likely due to the fact that the Strikeforce website developers hadn’t yet learned how to spell Marquardt and couldn’t afford to scan the Word document twice.

Well, ladies and gents, a date has finally been set for the return of “The Great.”

Well, ladies and gents, a date has finally been set for the return of “The Great.” Though the fight has yet to be confirmed by Strikeforce, it has been reportedly scheduled for the main card of the Heavyweight Tournament Finals match between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier on May 19th. Also scheduled for this card is the mildly anticipated trilogy match between Gilbert Melendez and Josh Thompson for the lightweight title.

And according to Marquardt, his match against Woodley is going to be for the vacant welterweight title. Not bad for a guy who was among the men DW said would never fight for Zuffa again. Here’s what Marquardt told Inside MMA during a recent interview:

It’s the best outcome I could have imagined, with all this. Like I said. Back with Zuffa. Back in a title fight for my first fight back, it’s amazing. From what I understand, that’s who I’ll be fighting is Tyron Woodley. I also understand it’s gonna be a five round title fight for the 170 pound title. You know, he’s a smart fighter, but at the same time, I have a lot more experience than him. It’s gonna be my fight to dictate where it goes.

Dear God, we hope so. Woodley’s recent performances have been nothing short of Askrenian in terms of excitement, and we would really like to see him forced to resort to something other than his wrestling base.

The tentatively titled Strikeforce 40 goes down from the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California on May 19th.

So who do you like for this one, Potato Nation?

The European based British Academy of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) held it’s latest event last night (March 24, 2012) at the National Indoor Arena in Brimingham, England.

The eleven-bout card was headlined by a middleweight title bout between champ Tom ‘Kong’ Watson (15-4) and previously undefeated Welsh fighter Jack ‘Hammer’ Marshman (10-1). Despite some strong support for Marshamn from his fellow British soldiers, Watson was able to score the bigger strikes in the first, despite walking away with a cut above his eye.

In the second, it was much the same as both men looked for the one punch finish. ‘Kong’ would land a spinning elbow, stunning the ‘Hammer’ before taking him to the mat to finish the fight with some ground-and-pound. The referee would stop the match at 4:50 of the second round giving Watson his third win and third straight title defense.

The remaining ‘Quick Results’ for the BAMMA 9 card is as follows:

World Middleweight title bout: Tom Watson def. Jack Marshman via TKO (Punches) – R2 @ 4:50
Lightweight bout: Colin Fletcher def. Jason Ball via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Light heavyweight bout: Jason Jones def. Przemyslaw Mysiala via TKO (cuts) – R1 @ 3:51

Press Release – (Mar 22th .12) Europe’s leading Mixed Martial Arts promotion, BAMMA, is proud to announce the updated fight card for BAMMA 9: Watson vs. Marshman, which takes place at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena this Saturday 24th March. BAMMA 9 is proudly sponsored by Go Daddy, the world’s largest provider of Web hosting, domain name registrations and new SSL Certificates.

Misfortune has struck at the last hour, with both Fraser Opie and Matt Howard forced to withdraw from their scheduled fights due to injuries sustained during the last leg of training.

Patrick Valle (7-2-0) will now replace Howard to face dangerous Spennymoor warrior, Andrew Punshon; who is renowned for fast, first-round, submission finishes, as well as his devastating knock-out power. That Valle has stepped up to the challenge of Punshon at three days’ notice is a testament to his strong heart and to the calibre of fight that fans can expect to see from the French athlete. Fighting out of Haut Tension, and training partner to Bellator competitor and Dream vet, Karl Amoussou; Vallee matches Punshon with his penchant for dramatic finishes. With wins via KO, TKO and submission (with 3 via Rear Naked Choke), Vallee looks set to push this bout in any number of directions. Expect the unpredictable in this pacey, neck-to-neck and ultimate test of speed, power and prowess, in a match that promises to be unforgettable.
