BAMMA 7 Weigh-in Main Card Video Highlights

Video highlights from today’s BAMMA 7 weigh-ins for Saturday’s, September 10, event from The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

In the video, co-main event fighter Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley explains to the gathered crowd why he’s hitting the scales at 176 lbs for his welterweight fight with Jordan Radev.

“First I’d like to mention to the press, I don’t know if you’ve been told but the saunas broke (at the Hotel), and the back up saunas before we could actually make weight. Hence everybody being overweight and being given two hours to make weight. I don’t know if that was mentioned but I thought that I would say that now.”

The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts held their weigh-ins for this Saturday’s, September 10, BAMMA 7 event, which is set to go down at The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.

Two main card fighters failed to make weight for the event, with one fighter pulling out of the fight earlier in the day.

If you would have guessed that one of those fighters was Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley, then you would be right. Daley failed to make weight for his welterweight bout with Jordan Radev, tipping the scales at 176 lbs, a full five pounds over the 171 lb welterweight limit.

‘Semtex’ was given an extra two-hours to drop the weight but turned it down, posting on Facebook that the fight was off. Instead of cancelling the bout Radev opted to face Daley in a 176 lbs catchweight bout making the fight official for the co-main event.

Daley explained to the press that the reason that several of the fighters were coming in overweight was due to the hotel saunas breaking down hours before the weigh-ins.

A last minute change saw lightweight title contender Leonardo Santos fail to even show up for the weigh-ins, opting to stay in Paris, France instead. Santos pulled himself out of the match because he was not going to make weight for the title match with Rob Sinclair and would not take a non-title fight because of the penalty in his contract to his fight purse for not making weight.

BAMMA officials pulled in a last minute replacement, pitting BAMMA 5 fighter Diego Vital against Sinclair for the World Lightweight Championship.

The main card and preliminary card of BAMMA 7 will stream live on the promotions Facebook page (www.facebook.com/bammauk) beginning at 2:15PM EST (11:15AM PST), with the main card beginning at 4PM EST (1PM PST) for fans living outside of the U.K. and Canada. Shocking News Week Continues: Paul Daley Misses Weight at BAMMA 7

“Missed it by this much.

Put on your surprised face, kids: Paul Daley stepped on the scales just minutes ago for his welterweight contest this weekend at BAMMA 7, and was recorded six pounds over the 170 pound limit. He has been given two hours to sweat out the remaining pounds. His opponent, Jordan Radev, came in at 170 on the first try.

At this point, Paul Daley making weight the first try would be more of a story, as this now makes the sixth time (by our count) that Semtex has tipped the scales in his own favor.

Apparently, the issue this time is a problem with sauna availability. If that excuse sounds familiar, look at you paying attention — we could just pinch your cheeks. Clearly, the UK is years behind the rest of the world in steam room technology, although you’d think they could fly in a specialized consultant from Finland or something.

CagePotato has been unable to confirm that Anthony Johnson just sent a text message to Daley, telling him to “stop eating so much (spotted) dick.”

Paul Daley has failed to make weight for the sixth time in his last 14 fights.

“Semtex” tipped the scales on Friday at 176 pounds for his BAMMA 7 170-pound fight against Jordan Radev. Daley was given two extra hours to lose more weight, but he opted against it.

According to Liam Fisher, BAMMA’s head of business development, the sauna at the fighter hotel broke at 2:15 p.m. local time, prior to the 3 p.m. weigh-ins in Birmingham, England. The other 25 fighters on the card successfully made weight.

Fisher said that Daley has been fined a percentage of his purse but refused to say how much. A portion of that purse deduction will be awarded to Radev. The Daley-Radev fight has now been changed to a 176-pound catchweight bout.

Daley weighed 170.4 for a BAMMA 5 title fight in February, 171.75 at Shark Fights 14 in September of 2010, 172 for UFC 108 in January of 2010, 171.5 for MFC 20 in February of 2009 and 174 for MFC 19 in December of 2008.

Headliners Frank Trigg (185.5 lbs) and Jim Wallhead (185) both made weight.

BAMMA 7 will air live outside the UK and Canada on Facebook. UK fans can watch the main card live on Syfy and Canadian fans can watch it live on The Fight Network.
