Bivol and Beterbiev went another 12 full rounds with the latter controlling much of the action with his relentless pressure and signature overhand right. However, it was Bivol who landed the more significant strikes, particularly towards the beginning and the end of the fight.

Beterbiev got off to a relatively slow start before starting to heat up in the third and fourth rounds. Before long, the defending champ started to slow down, allowing Bivol to unleash a bevy of brutal combinations hidden behind his jab which did a good job of stifling Beterbiev’s offense in the later rounds.

After going the distance once again, the judges delivered the exact same scorecard they did the first time around, but with a different result, much to the delight of the live crown at AMD Arena.

Official Result: Dmitry Bivol def. Artur Beterbiev via majority decision (114-114, 116-112, 115-113) to win the undisputed light heavyweight world championship.

The scorecards in Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2 were the same as their first fight — but in the other fighter’s favor.

Bivol scored a majority decision win over Beterbiev in the main event of a card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to become the new undisputed light heavyweight champion and hand the Russian-Canadian his first loss in the professional boxing ring, just as Beterbiev did to him months ago.

From the second the fight opened, it was as closely contested as their first. Beterbiev looked to bring pressure right away in the first round, but the challenger worked his hands well to bring it back. Bivol continued to keep busy in the third round, keeping this pace up through various combinations thrown.

Beterbiev respond well over the next couple of rounds, bringing intense pressure and a dominating attack to the body. Bivol, in fact, had a notable mark on his forehead by the end of the fifth round, a frame which seemed to show the challenger getting visibly hurt by a Beterbiev right hand.

After a quiet sixth round, Beterbiev kept his control of the fight in tact, up until his rival started to gain momentum toward the end of the seventh. Bivol then got back to landing better combinations and reset the momentum in his favor, seeming to get a second bursts of attack and control on.

The 34-year-old continued this pacing as he let his hands go more as the fight got later. Beterbiev, however, was not going down without a fight, landing strong punches in the final round, cutting open his challenger over one of his eyes.

Dmitry Bivol Avenges Loss To Artur Beterbiev, Wins Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship

One judge scored the bout 114-114, but they were overruled by scores of 115-113 and 116-112 in Bivol’s favor.

Bivol now gets a taste of revenge after losing the WBA light heavyweight title in his first undisputed title encounter with Beterbiev in October.

Bivol was WBA (Regular) champion in 2017 before becoming WBA (Super) champion in 2019. Bivol’s loss to Beterbiev was his first, having had an unbeaten record that saw him score victories over Canelo Alvarez, Gilberto Ramirez, Jean Pascal and Joe Smith Jr.

Beterbiev had won the IBF light heavyweight title originally in November 2017, defeating Enrico Kolling. He then defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk in October 2019 to win the WBC title and Smith Jr. in June 2022 to win the WBO gold.

A stacked lineup is set for Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Arena on Saturday, February 22. In the headlining act, Beterbiev and Bivol will run back their undisputed light heavyweight title fight from last October.

Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn Slams 'Sickening' Decision in Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol Fight

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn was flabbergasted by the scoring in Saturday night’s undisputed light heavyweight title clash between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

Over the weekend, Beterbiev and Bivol went toe-to-toe in one of the most anticipated boxing matches of the last decade. Luckily for fight fans, the bout lived up to the hype with both fighters slinging leather for much of the 12-round affair.

Boxing

However, many were left frustrated by what is being called another controversial decision in the sport.

Judges scored the fight 114-114, 115-113, and 116-112 in favor of Beterbiev, crowning him the undisputed light heavyweight champion while simultaneously handing Bivol the first loss of his illustrious career.

Boxing

Speaking on the disputable decision immediately following the fight, Hearn vented his frustration over Beterbiev being handed the win.

“I don’t want to disrespect Beterbiev, because they’re both incredible fighters, but I find it sickening that, after a lifetime of hard work, Bivol is not undisputed champion tonight. He won that fight,” Hearn said during the post-fight press conference. “I struggle to find anybody in our row; a row behind, the TV row, who didn’t score the fight to Bivol. To find a judge give that fight 116-112, and give Dmitry Bivol four rounds in that fight; this judge should never work in the sport again.

“Everything you’ll get out of Dmitry is: ‘I can do better; it’s boxing. I take the judges’ scorecard’, but I don’t buy it because you don’t deserve that after that performance. It was an absolute boxing masterclass. It was the perfect performance. He can be better, but that was a pure show of concentration, skill, and defense, with offense thrown in. Bivol is arguably pound-for-pound No. 1 in the sport. He deserves tonight to sit here as the undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the world” (h/t BJPenn.com).

Status Reveal Just How Close the Beterbiev vs. Bivol Boxing Bout Truly Was

According to the official stats from Compubox, Beterbiev and Bivol were separated by four or fewer punches in eight out of the 12 rounds while Bivol out-landed Beterbiev by just five punches over the distance. Bivol connected with more jabs, landing 58 to Beterbiev’s 47, but Beterbiev connected on 14 more power punches with the totals being 90 to 84.

Boxing

Beterbiev landed more shots in six rounds while Bivol won the numbers game in five of them. Both fighters landed nine punches apiece in the sixth round.

Whether you land on the side of Beterbiev or Bivol, most seem to agree that the 116-112 scorecard turned in by Pawel Kardyni was far too wide considering the close nature of the scrap.

With the fight being as tight as it was and the decision being highly debatable, do we see Beterbiev vs. Bivol 2 in 2025?
