Retired MLB pitcher John Rocker was planning to brawl with fellow baseball weirdo Pat Mahomes Sr. for the “Rough ‘N Rowdy” promotion on April 18 in Wheeling, West Virginia, because somebody, somewhere, probably thought they could squeeze a few bucks from this freak show fight.
Better luck next time.
“This fight’s canceled,” Barstool boss, Dave Portnoy, told The Unnamed Show. “They came to us to do this. Like, how would we ever come up with this concept, like ‘Oh, let’s put John Rocker versus Patrick Mahomes Sr.’ — who would ever think of that? They came to us, said they hated each other and wanted to fight.”
“Devlin, who does the Rough ‘N Rowdy, put it together,” Portnoy continued. “Like ‘Yeah, they want to fight, let’s do it.’ Mahomes’ agent, the football player, and Brittany from what I am told, intervened and was like, ‘There’s no way this fight’s happening. We’re gonna cut this guy off if he does it.’ So they canceled it.”
Rough ‘N Rowdy should probably book Bucky Boyd vs. Tree 4 instead.
Rocker is 50 and Mahomes Sr. is 55, so the ring is probably not the best place for either ex-pitcher. A quick scan of the Rough ‘N Rowdy website doesn’t return any future cards as of this writing, but does feature a video titled “Boxer Farts In The Ring, Makes Everyone Sick,” which likely improved his performance.
