It comes as no surprise at this point with him officially suspended on Monday for a year effective July, but the UFC has stripped Jon Jones of his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed the news in an article posted Wednesday morning, which UFC President Dana White had disclosed during a recording of the news organization’s “5ive Rounds” podcast.
“It doesn’t make sense with all the stuff that is going on for him to still be the interim champion,” White said. “He was the interim champion because he should have been fighting for the title [in April]. We gave him this, ‘You were supposed to fight for the title, here it is.'” White then proceeded to bury Jones a bit, saying that “Jon Jones has blown it in every way shape and form a guy with that much talent can blow it,” and calling him the “[g]reatest talent ever and the biggest screw-up ever.”
