Hoooooooly smokes!!!!
Olympic gold medalist and two-time NCAA Division I Heavyweight Champion Gable Steveson just got hit with a jaw-dropping upset by Oklahoma State’s Wyatt Hendrickson at the NCAA finals tonight (Sat., March 22, 2025) inside Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
Steveson looked poised to claim his third national title, nailing an early takedown on Hendrickson. But with just 30 seconds on the clock, Hendrickson snatched Steveson’s leg, powered through for a three-point takedown, and flipped the script. Clinging tight, he stunned the Olympic champ to steal the lead and clinch the Heavyweight crown in one of the wildest finishes ever.

Matside announcer Mike Couzens, alongside former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) two-division champion Daniel Cormier, dubbed it “the biggest upset in NCAA history,” and he might not be wrong.
U.S. President Donald Trump was in attendance for the crazy upset and was saluted by Hendrickson, a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

Fresh off a fizzled WWE stint and a quick exit from the Buffalo Bills, Steveson returned to Minnesota for his final collegiate run, hungry for another national title to cap his legacy, and obviously, that dream crashed hard tonight.
In a gut-punch moment, Steveson called it quits on college wrestling, leaving his shoes on the mat as a symbolic farewell.
No words can describe this moment.

Even though he lost tonight, Steveson will go down as one of the greatest wrestlers in NCAA history and an Olympic champion.
Steveson has teased a move to mixed martial arts (MMA) after his college career, so after tonight, that cage door might swing open sooner than later.
Check out some other reactions from social media.
From failed WWE star, failed NFL Player, then deciding to go back to college and just to lose in the NCAA championship match
This be might be a generational all time bad run for Gable Stevenson

Congrats to Wyatt Hendrickson of Oklahoma State for doing the impossible…. by beating Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Stevenson of the U of Minnesota at the 2025 NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia. This could very well be the biggest upset since Dan Gable lost…

Nothing but respect for Gable Stevenson, but maybe now you motherfuckers will understand how good Kyle Snyder was and is.

Gable hadn’t lost in YEARS. Wyatt didn’t just win, he made people believe again.
