Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion, Dricus du Plessis, scored his second title defense at UFC 312 last night (Sat., Feb. 8, 2025), battering a sluggish Sean Strickland from pillar-to-post to notch a dominant unanimous decision from inside Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia (watch highlights).
“Stillknocks” sent Strickland directly to the hospital as a result of the 25-minute smesh session.
du Plessis did what he always does: fight awkwardly and strangely. And this time, he caught the eye of former Light Heavyweight roost-ruler, Jiri Prochazka, who also fights like … a weirdo?
“Congrats @dricusduplessis,” Prochazka wrote on social media. “No technic, no rhythm but 200% activity and pressure, especially like a champion, that was something inspirational.”
Pot meet kettle? Prochazka is perhaps the last person on UFC’s roster who should be talking about technique. On the flip side, it could just also be a fun case of “real meets real.”
Regardless, fans reacted to Prochazka’s message to “DDP:”

Polished technique be damned, du Plessis did what he does best. He is still UFC’s reigning and defending 185-pound kingpin and will have to endure everyone criticizing his uiques style for the next few weeks.
The again, maybe it’s not “unique” at all. Two-of-a-kind?
